In 3 weeks on February 5th, “Nightshades” will be showing at Nitehawk Williamsburg at 7pm! This screening will showcase 8 intimate vignettes of 8 unique nightlife artists, with each episode being one night of filming with one artist and one filmmaker. The screening will be followed by a Q&A after with @classiccallaghan and some of the featured artists (Veronica Viper, Cory Dixon, Dominant Jeane, Billie Bullock, and Thee Suburbia), and will focus on the world of NYC nightlife. New York City is technically a sanctuary city, meaning local policies limit cooperation with federal immigration enforcement. There is visible pushback against federal power, yet the question remains: are these protections enough? Immigration enforcement policies are shifting rapidly, and the consequences for undocumented New Yorkers are immediate.
Since Trump’s 2nd term and the passing of his One Big Beautiful Bill Act, ICE now has about 85 billion USD at its disposal. This budget increase is connected to Trump’s crackdown on immigration and mass deportation efforts, sending more agents into U.S. communities.
This is such a critical time for the United States. We are a country of immigrants, built by immigrants, and sustained by immigrants, and we all deserve basic human rights.
