I built a tiny frame to prototype multidirectional, two-layer lenticulars with glass rods, then tested it by combining four of Monet's "Houses of Parliament". It loses a lot of detail at such a small scale, so it's more of an impression of impressionism. I used a screen to prototype just because it's faster and easier than printing, but I'm getting kinda into the pixel-y RGB distortion that results. (Next step video?)

May I present the documentation video for "Tête-à-tête", a wall-mounted interactive sculpture. Its two faces converse closely and privately; when a loud noise disturbs their environment they glare in its direction before turning their gaze back to each other and resuming their conversation. The artwork's interactions with viewers and its space reflect the contradictory social mores regarding the expectation of privacy in public spaces - a reasonable entitlement that nevertheless imposes on others.

Today was a successful test hang of a new work, Tête-à-Tête! Its faces are engaged in polite conversation, but glare with hostility when loud noises interrupt their flow. The displays are 16x9 pixel matrices running original animations, with the sides connected via a vintage telephone handset cord. The faces' structures are ceramic tiles joined to a plastic housing, with a top layer of tinted acrylic backed by gold leaf.

I've been working on this conversing wall sculpture for the last several weeks, and finally assembled and tested the left side! After I put the right side together tomorrow it'll be fully complete - until then Lefty's talking to himself

Just finished installing my piece at #theotherartfair! It's exciting and surreal to show up and see my name on the wall text, I hope it never gets old 🤗
Come check out Millennial Mandala in "Nostalgia-Core" at The Other Art Fair BK - April 16-19 at the Brooklyn Navy Yard's Agger Fish! #toaf #theotherartfair #animation #newmedia
Very proud to announce that my animated work, "Millennial Mandala", was selected for a special feature at The Other Art Fair Brooklyn! April 16-19, BK Navy Yard's Agger Fish building.

This piece combines sprite animations from classic game cartridges with footage of professional streamers, arranged as a mandala. This is to reflect the koan-like experience of passively observing another person playing a game, while the observer, player and game each exist within their own separate realities.
Had a little fun designing a sample piece to test how different acrylics would look with gold-leaf backing, it came out looking like an Aztec dinosaur, or maybe a De Stijl xenomorph?
Sculpture in progress - eventually these guys will have a conversation, but for now they're just talking at each other. I'll probably run this on a beefier controller too, because this one is _chugging_

I wanted to use this beautiful square display as the basis for my first fully-realized lenticular work, but after a few years on the shelf it turns out to be broken. (I tested it when it originally arrived, so ironically I probably did this myself when I repacked it.) Before fully admitting defeat, I decided to see how the busted one-pixel stripes would look through #lenticular distortion, and WOW are there some cool effects to be had. Too cool to resist tbh, I feel like I'm about to do and learn a lot of math.

Cycling through animations for eye movement and speech on 16x9 LED arrays - that's 16x9 PIXELS, total. Designing and animating at such a low resolution is tricky, things that would look smooth and clear in HD get reduced to indistinct smudges when you only have a few pixels to play with. The visual effect is worth it though - there's a retrofuturist coolness that can't be replicated with an LCD.
