“Doljanchi” (돌잔치) is a traditional Korean celebration for a baby’s first birthday 🎂
In Korean culture, it marks a baby’s first full year of life- a milestone that carries deep meaning, rooted in history when reaching one year wasn’t always guaranteed. It’s more than just a traditional birthday party, it’s a celebration of life, health, and the support that carried the baby through their first year.
One of the most well-known traditions is the “Doljabi” (돌잡이) where different symbolic items are placed in front of the baby. The item they choose is believed to give a glimpse into their future, whether that’s success, wisdom, creativity, or a long, healthy life.
It’s a celebration rooted in tradition and community, honoring a child and the love that surrounds them.
