Why do I like Feaster so much? For a few reasons. One, they have roots in the Philly area, where I'm from, and still have much pride in. They also have a back story that appeals to me. It's not super unusual compared to most DIY bands, but to me, it felt authentic. Frontman Jared Rodriguez and guitarist Ian Lozinski have played in bands together since they were 10 years old. Feaster was born from the ashes of one of their old projects, Snacks Chapman, which operated in Brooklyn from 2018 to 2020. Long story short, Jared and Ian reconnected after Jared went through a bad breakup and moved in with his friend in New Hope, PA. From there, they began a slow, deliberate songwriting process that eventually led to their debut LP, Big Super. Feaster also includes Dre on drums and Brodan on bass. Big Super will be released on May 8th via Bad Catt Records. Musically, Feaster is hard to pin down, but they seem to like it that way. There's some psych in their sound, but also a jagged, hard-charging rock energy that reminds me of San Diego-based Chorduroy and that band's excellent 2024 LP, Voice of Reason. Many of their songs confront the absurd and include dark humor, which feels very fitting for these ass-backward times we live in. Anyway, I got the chance to interview Jared and Ian from Feaster, where they told me more about how the band started, what's been influencing them lately, and what their creative process is like. Check out the interview on The Third Eye Substack page. Link in bio. Thanks to Nick at @thirdeyepsychrock for a stellar review of @deathbirdearth 's "Objective Consciousness"! "Objective Consciousness doesn’t ask to be understood so much as experienced—loud, disoriented, and fully surrendered to whatever signal it’s tapping into" Get lost in Objective Consciousness and read the full review at the link in bio #deathbirdearth #srarecords #HeavyPsych #spacerock #noiserock #progrock #goodboypr

I’ve been enamored lately by the strange, occult-inspired music of “mail-order” mystic Master Wilburn Burchette, whose story and mysterious life are just as interesting as the seven New Age instrumental records he self-released between 1971 and 1977. Not much is known about Burchette, who passed away in 2023, because in the late ‘70s, he destroyed, discarded, and swore off everything related to his music. The label Numero Group (@thenumerogroup ) reissued all seven of his surviving albums — which you can find on Bandcamp — and published an interview with Wilburn before he passed. It’s one of the few known instances in which Wilburn spoke publicly about his music, as he had become a grouchy recluse who hung up on anyone who called to ask. None of this would matter much, of course, if the music wasn’t any good. But the music is VERY good, at least in my opinion. Guitar Grimorie from 1973 is said to be his masterwork, but listen to any of his seven records from that decade, and you’ll hear a self-taught guitarist who clearly knew how to create fascinating instrumental sonic worlds that, while New Age, also at times feel like a good fit for a horror movie soundtrack. I wrote about Master Wilburn Burchette on The Third Eye Substack, so head over and check it out. Second review of Le Nord by our friends at @thirdeyepsychrock "Le Nord feels honed rather than restrained: a colder clarity, a sharpened edge, and a reminder that even within stillness, there is movement." "Early electronic and minimalist influences surface not as reference points, but as frameworks: melody and harmony emerge through the frost, clearer, more deliberate, without ever softening the project’s glacial core. The weight is still there—it just breathes differently now. And it has a massive sound."

Technology is a blessing and a curse. I feel like the convergence of smartphones and the internet is much to blame for our insane societal problems. And yet, without the World Wide Web, a collaboration like The Lizard Point wouldn’t be possible. The Lizard Point is a transatlantic ambient duo comprised of Conor Devlin in Switzerland and Geoffrey Scott in San Francisco. They recently released their third LP, In The Red Earth, a terrific album that was recorded between studios in upstate New York and SF. Another fun fact about the duo: The band name - The Lizard Point - is borrowed from the opening track of Brian Eno’s Ambient 4: On Land. We recently wrote a review of the duo’s new record on the OG blog, and we also just posted an interview with the band on our Substack, where I learned a lot of cool things about them, including their creative process, their inspirations, and how their first record was "an accident." Check out the interview on The Third Eye Substack. Link in bio. Spring is definitely here in the South. Photo 1 and 2 is one of my favorite trees on our long walk around the neighborhood. Photo 3 is the rooster a few blocks over (and we don’t live in a rural area). And of course, Nico sniffing around, smelling the Spring air. ❤️

Officially, it’s called Live Nation Entertainment. But insiders have another name for it: The Ticketmaster Mafia. The Third Eye's entirely fake investigation reveals how the operation works. It begins the moment a band announces a tour. Within hours, a man in a satin blazer appears with an offer the band “can’t refuse.” Play along, or spend the summer touring county fairgrounds and Applebee’s parking lots. Behind it all is the black algorithm: the secret code that turns a $45 ticket into $600 by the time checkout arrives. And yet we keep coming back. Because love makes fools of us all. And deep down, we all know we’ll still pay $325 (plus fees) to hear three songs we actually recognize. Head to The Third Eye Substack to read the full investigative report. Link in the bio. Share this post widely before the Mafia notices and this post disappears - and perhaps I, too, disappear. And follow Ticketmaster at @ticketmaster - and tell them you want your money back. #ticketmaster #livemusic #concerttickets #satire #musicindustry #thirdeyeopen #satire #humor #nonsense

After nearly three years of silence, Lamp of the Universe returns with Existence of the Self, a luminous new chapter in Craig Williamson’s long-running cosmic folk journey. Acoustic guitar, sitar, and hazy psychedelic textures drift across six meditative tracks, designed for inner travel. From the raga-like trance of “Ship of Eternity” to the lava-lamp psych rock glow of the title track, the album gently unfolds like a slow spiritual ritual. It’s introspective, hypnotic, and deeply rooted in the transcendental spirit that has defined Lamp of the Universe for more than two decades. Head to The Third Eye Substack to read the full review. What does a modern banjo record sound like? On Mountain States, Johnny Bell takes the banjo far beyond its Appalachian roots and into the vast deserts of the American West. Across seven immersive tracks, cinematic drones, drifting synths, and expressive picking evoke wide horizons, lonely highways, and the beauty of New Mexico landscapes. Co-produced with Andrew Weathers and arriving May 8th via Centripetal Force (USA) and Ramble Records (Australia). Limited vinyl pressing of 200 copies. It's a hypnotic, meditative journey through a new frontier of banjo music. Don't miss it. Head to The Third Eye Substack for the full review. Link in the bio. Portland-based psych rock outfit Abronia returns with Shapes Unravel. It’s a dark, atmospheric record that blends fuzzy riffs, desert soundscapes, and haunting vocals. Drawing echoes of Catherine Ribeiro + Alpes and the cosmic intensity of King Gizzard, the album moves from slow-burning meditations to explosive psychedelic jams. Standout moments like “Weapons Against Progress” and “Walker’s Dead Birds” showcase the band’s ability to balance raw emotion with hypnotic grooves, while Keelin Mayer’s screams and multi-instrumental flourishes push the music into beautifully chaotic territory. It’s darker, rawer, and more primal than their previous work, and one of my favorite psych rock releases of the year so far. I also think their sound is very similar to The Black Angels, though I'll let you, the listener, be the judge on that. Third Eye contributor Bill Cooper wrote an excellent review of the record, which you can find on our Substack. Link in the bio. Jimi Hendrix giving the peace sign to the crowd at Woodstock on the morning of August 18, 1969. A famous, widely attributed quote of Jimi's is: "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace." It's debated whether Jimi ever said this, and it may actually be a variation of something said by a 19th-century British Prime Minister, or perhaps a spiritual teacher named Sri Chinmoy. But it sounds like something Jimi might have said. And it's also a nice quote for a day and a time like this. #poweroflove #love #peace #nomorewar #jimihendrix
