I mixed this with one of my favorite collaborators Matthew Sheeran. Really interesting project. A technical first I recon. Released on @cedillerecords and performed by the amazing musicians and recording engineers at @budapestscoring The NYT article isn’t behind a pesky paywall if you ant to check it out. Next up from the #PersonaLab 💥💡🧬⚙️ today over on Substack (you should subscribe it’s where I’m most active) I’m discussing the development of the opening track from the upcoming record, Flesh & Bone, tracing the song’s movement across multiple stages of writing, performance, and production. ☉ I’m writing from Brian’s Studio, Third Ear, where I have been living for the last seven days. I’m sharing a clip here from the studio so you can hear what the song is sounding like, but it started out in a very different shape to what you hear now, with virtually no overlap in lyrics, structure, or even the musical arrangement. ☉ The song, originally called ‘Living Song’, began as a writing experiment I tried to ‘write for the sake of writing’ rather than writing with a predefined subject or emotional framework dictating or heavily influencing the songwriting process (usually how I work). Despite the new detached approach, the experiment took a twist and ended up revealing a lot more than I anticipated regarding underlying tensions I was experiencing regarding authenticity. These ended up becoming embedded in the trajectory of the song in many ways as it evolved. ☉ The track was later reworked into a song called Being Human as part of the site-specific commission I did last year for Kilkenny Arts Festival. The themes of the song shifted as new lyrics were written and ☉ Following its presentation in Kilkenny, the music was retained and developed independently. The track has since undergone further structural, sonic, and technical refinement in the studio, where we’re at today, incorporating new production decisions to really enhance the song and bring it into a state of fullness. ☉ The current version represents the latest stage in an ongoing process, with the final naming of the track still unresolved between Being Human and Living Song. Loads more about it over on Substack for my fellow nerds 💡 link in stories xx

Finally racked this lovely 1073 preamp from @audiomaintenance with @persona__ie vocals for its maiden voyage. Love it. Strong ‘Sounds like a record’ vibes. That brass trim screw 😍
