One of my favorite events to shoot is our annual Holi celebration. The colors, the artistry, and the beauty makes for a great day followed by the throwing of the colors. There is a lot to be said about living in the most diverse city in the country.
Got to shoot part of the performance last night of the American Patchwork Quartet at BlackRock. Diverse group that brings their different cultures into traditional folk songs. Great show.
Shooting two performances simultaneously was challenging with Tula and Regina Valentines Drag show in the BlackBox while Howard University’s Afro Blue with Cyrus Chestnut on the main stage. Not sure how many times I ran back and forth, but had an awesome time.
Great evening last night with both Villager and Sun Ra Arkestra performing at BlackRock. Sun Ra was funky eclectic and colorful with music ranging from swing, rock 'n' roll, Chicago blues, improvisation, and electronic. Great performance.
As usual, MacMillan United Pipe Bands put on a great show at BlackRock Saturday night. Love shooting this group every year. #macmillanunitedpipeband #lovewhatyoudo
Shot the dress rehearsal for the Free Theatre production of Newsies at BlackRock last night. This is a theatre group with only one adult advisor. All usual activities for putting together a production like this to include lighting, audio, choreography, direction, set design, acting, etc. is all done by high school kids. Extremely talented and this is one shoot that I look forward to every year. Evening performances this weekend are sold out, but there are seats available for the matinees both Saturday and Sunday. Great day yesterday at BlackRock Center for the Arts for the annual MLK “Say it Loud” celebration. Music by Wayne Unchained, Pink Palish, Jogo Project and the Harvest Life Church Choir, food by Sides BBQ, status displays, vendors, movies, education, etc….. As usual, the staff at BlackRock knocked it out of the park.
