Dinosaurs and Bookers. Look, I’m not saying you can’t learn anything. I think everyone’s journey is their journey…AND…I’m just not confident that’s the best route to go. Seriously. #actor

Today is my birthday. And my show got canceled. Kind of a strange thing to hold at the same time. I really thought IT was going to be around for a while. Disney. Billboards. Theme parks. Menus in restaurants. I think somewhere along the way, I just LET myself believe it would just keep going. But this is the business part of show business. Things end. I know that intellectually. Emotionally… it still suuuuucks. And honestly, this whole thing brought me back to when Bosch ended after seven years. Nobody really talks about that part. What happens after you spend years with a character, a crew, a rhythm, a family… and then one day it’s just over. I went into a real depression after Bosch ended. Not because I thought my career was over. I think it was because nobody teaches actors how to mourn this part of the job. You spend years trying to book the role. Praying for the opportunity. Getting it. And then when it ends, everybody expects you to just move onto the next audition like nothing happened. Sometimes you can. Sometimes it catches up to you. This time around, I think I’m just more aware of what I need. And honestly, one of the biggest things is being intentional about who I’m around. This business is already hard enough. Doing it isolated makes it harder. Who’s around you matters. Who reminds you who you are when things get quiet matters. Who helps you stay grounded when things get quiet matters. That’s honestly one of the reasons First Team Collective means so much to me. Not because actors need more random information. Most actors are already overwhelmed. But because having people around you who understand this business… people who can help you keep moving forward without spiraling… that matters. Anyway. That’s what’s been on my mind today. Grateful for another year. Grateful for you. And grateful I still get to do this work. D P.S. If you’ve been looking for mentorship, community, and actors to walk through this business with, First Team Collective is open right now.

Listen. If you like, I love it: I don’t like them and actors have fought me on this for YEARS. I feel like it is a way to stay busy. But not a helpful way. I love actors and I’m always trying to protect our mind. IMO - this isn’t one of them. Let’s discuss.

Once I stopped trying to get an A for my backstory work…and started letting it fuel my character and their choices…. Be honest. Do you try to show your work?

Who started this? Take your time with your auditions. Put your best work possible. Take all the time you need before the deadline. And please stop listening to be who are not in the direction you want to be going. Or have not been where you want to go. šŸ¤¦šŸ½ā€ā™‚ļø #actor #actortips #audition

Everyone can get let go. I’m sorry. Nobody wants to hear me say there are people out there who have not worked that are sharing information like it’s truth.
