Earlier this year I was invited to join the definitive dream project, masterfully created by @thefurrow and led by the legend @seth_eckert .
This is the bit my buddy @rdrehmer and I animated. Production was already very advanced by the time we joined and coming up with something as insane as masters @jdashscott and @nickdoesmograph had done at that point was no easy feat.
Luckily we got a bunch of amazing frames from @rommelruiz and @grace_poole and those inspired us to push our Ae techniques to the limit.
This is 100% After Effects, 100% native tools, no fancy schmancy plugins. Just a ton of head scratching and willingness to make justice to the amazing team involved.

I can't wait to share BTS stuff and show a bit of the techniques we've developed for this.
I've also animated a bunch of pretty loops I'll be posting here shortly.

Quick & fun job with my besties from Nova Scotia @wonderlust_tv .
Handled comp & Ae animation on this one. Cel stuff by Argentinian animation god @juanpontaroli and my new buddy @rohan_mcdonald (who also did some comping before I hopped in).
Swipe to see me trying to keep the layer count as low as possible when adding shading to the cel stuff and also some fake 3D rigs.
🍊For curious ppl: the peel on the tangerine is a CC Sphere effect with a texture that is mostly transparent, that way I can get just a slice of it. Its rotation controls are rigged to a master controller that also rotates the buds which are simple flat 3D layers. Then ofc some tricks to make it all play nice together and look shaded and nice.

These are some of the shots I've animated/comped for the Minima Manifesto by @ordinaryfolkco .
I was lucky enough to be the first AE person on duty so I had the opportunity to develop a lot of the techniques that were later used throughout the whole thing to give it a painterly/organic feel. For these first shots everything's AE as usual, except character animation by animator & overall rad dude @reeceparkerco .
Fun fact: if you look at the process videos you'll notice it's mostly comped in grayscale and all of the sudden it gets all colored up. That's an adjustment layer with a Colorama effect in it and I'm doing it that way to mimic what illustration wizard @gasilveira did in Photoshop (with gradient mapping over there) and make it look as close as possible to the styleframe.
In the last couple slides there are some paintbrush assets I created in Ae to use just about EVERYWHERE.
Eventually I'll post some other shots from this project that used different cool tricks.

This is my absolute favorite shot from last year and seeing it featured on @ben_marriott_ 's best of 2021 was the push I needed to get my 💩 together and post it already with some BTS goodies.
This is 100% native Ae, no fancy C4D renderer, no plugins.
It's part of the wonderful Webflow (2021) project by the wizards at @ordinaryfolkco and was made by me and my buddy @rdrehmer , who laid out the rough animation and worked those crazy awesome little glass blocks that pop from the main cube.
Got a couple more of these to post here. Will I? Will I find the will?

Back in 2016 I was a digital tomato farmer.
Zero cel animation in this one. Handled it with keyframes, some shapes and even state-of-the-art Shatter effect (yes).
Would be way easier nowadays since nulls learned to follow paths.
