Hand Washed Colony @_carlitabrito 5:30PM EST Sat May 22nd HERETHERE.ART “For this body of work, I want to create several pieces that act as a visual representation of the hardships that Puerto Ricans endured after the passage of Hurricane Maria. Because of a corrupted government that did not care for the safety of its civilians, Puerto Ricans were left with no electricity or water for almost a year. With Handwashed Colony I wanted to translate the frustration of having to handwash clothes for months. To make an allegory of the “resources” that we got, I attempt to clean the clothes with mud, which only makes it dirtier. r/ By hiding myself in plain sight, I wanted to represent all of the women that had to deal with this repetitive, exhaustive and unfair task”

Posted @withregram • @taryn__jones I'm happy to announce that Sally Go ‘Round the Roses, a short, experimental film that Phaedra Mae Restad and I made in 2010-11, will be screened online this Saturday, May 22, 2021 at 7PM EDT as part of the program HERE and THERE presented by @thewindowroom .  The film was considered unfinished for the past decade, this will be its first public screening! Big thanks to @shalynbro for motivating me to get it ready to show. There is a short trailer on the final slide of this post. Sally Go 'Round the Roses explores the symbol of the rose and its eternal human companion, the woman.  The viewer is guided through a series of vignettes inspired by legends and histories of the rose and its complex associations - romance, divinity, hedonism, purity, mysticism.  Phaedra portrays multiple characters on screen, including herself, the artist and beholder. We shot it on multiple formats (16mm film, super8 film, VHS video, SD digital video) on sets that we created in our South Philadelphia row home as well as on location at the Texas Rose Festival.  The film features an original score by Yianni Kourmadas.

About a year ago @kiersten.ladzinski came to our darkroom to process a few rolls of 35mm that had been previously soaked in various liquid concoctions. A lot of labs wont process experiments like these because they may contaminate the chemicals - thats where we come in! After a few failed rolls and lost images Kiersten came back and killed it! These are a few images from a roll soaked in lime juice/water for 2ish hours, dried, shot, then handprocessed as normal in c41 chemicals Want to learn how to process?
