Sometimes I like to feel and understand where the marks will be made before I design a linocut. It was nice to have a more relaxed experimental evening yesterday, sitting and feeling where the pen naturally wants to go and to understand how light expresses shape and form. Watercolours and ink somehow feel a little more forgiving and expressive sometimes. An afternoon packing up all your orders in the SUNSHINE🌞 There are some perks to having a small creative business…and enjoying working in the sunshine when I want, is definitely one of them 🙃 I think I could have survived reducing my ‘working office’ days to 3 days a week, but you know when you’re not living authentically to the things that matter to you? That’s what started to make my life feel a little bit unliveable. I felt a bit like a caged animal to be honest. And that niggling voice kept getting louder and louder. And so, I quit 😂 Now I get to build my days around making work I love and expressing myself creatively for a living, whilst making time for sunshine and daisies! (Although to be absolutely real with you, it is not all sunshine and daisies 😂). I’ve started to share more of that process, not just the making, but how I turned my creative work into something sustainable and profitable. It has been many years since I visited Primrose Hill. It was a rainy December weekend, the streets littered with fairy lights and people dragging their Christmas trees through the park in the mizzle. I was there visiting my cousin for the weekend, a student at SOAS at the time. She’s still the most remarkable person I’ve ever met.
