Ever since I moved to Salt Lake in 1993, I’ve stared 1000’s of times up at Mount Olympus in awe of its absolute grandeur.
When the chuting gallery came out in 1998, I got an autographed copy, one of the first from
@straightchuter and when I came across page 69, I thought, Medusa Face, wow, now that’s something.
For the last 8-10 years, I’ve been really drawn to ride this mountain. Staring up at it month after month, year after year - just waiting, wanting and hoping…
With the season shaping up to be historic, the snowpack being just about perfect for a line like this - I knew I just couldn’t wait any longer! Today was going to be the day. I wasn’t willing to hold myself back, have outside circumstances delay me any further or have another season slip away.
Knowing damn well that this line is heavy and avalanche conditions not being quite perfect, I said a prayer, kissed Maverick on the head, wrote a short note just in case and loaded up.
As I drove, my decision was solid and I hoped my waiting would pay off. The decision was to do it direct, solo and hopefully free!
By now, if you watched the reel, you know the mission was a success.
I don’t often write long posts like this because I wonder if anyone really reads them but this is more of a journal entry for me to reflect back on and to inspire those who have read this far.
After today, this is a resounding message: never doubt yourself, never give up on yourself and never let anything hold you back from living your full potential. NEVER! Do everything you can to work towards your goals! Get the education, get the skills, get the knowledge and get after it.
After doing this line so much has changed for me. If I could sum it up in a few words: self-actualization and ultimate confidence.
Everything is possible, now more then ever. And that is what it’s all about.
