@instagram banned ambient music and removed both tracks I had uploaded to them through @distrokid
These were made and released well before the tsunami of AI generated slop tunes hit the platform…
So if you see an old reel or story with my own music removed, you’ll know who to blame.
They have never said why they don’t allow ambient music, (or meditation music, film scores, nature sounds, etc) but a quick search through their available tracks when you create a post will still show such unbanned bangers as:
- 10 different ambient remixes of the Interstellar theme (2 in 1!)
- Countless meditation tracks (some claim to cure autism!)
- Countless nature sounds (with ‘nature sounds’ in the actual title!)
So I’ve uploaded some more ambient music to instagram (and everywhere else distrokid can go)
The music you’re hearing now came from a live performance I did last year at the incredible @_nashvilledrone_
It is about living in sound (the opposite of dying on instagram? which is what we should try our best to avoid)
Now that it’s on streaming, I’ve found myself listening to it when I don’t know what else to listen to. I listen when I want to be enveloped and undisturbed. When I want to forget social media even exists, much less an ambient music ban. I hope you’ll enjoy it too.
