I was fortunate that @robertdeboucher and @ethan_spotts let me be the cinematographer for this. Little did they know that I am actually just a marionette that was magically and maybe accidentally brought to life, so joke is on them.
My dad was diagnosed with cancer March 2024 and passed away in August. One of the first things I did was fly home to make some videos for his music. I made sure to capture as much as I could because I was abruptly confronted with the fact I would have forever. And I’m glad I did.
This is him in between takes for the “official” video playing “These Foolish Things” from memory. With maybe some improv in there too.
I think he’d be mortified that I posted this. He’d talk about how there are mistakes all over the place. I never cared. This is the sound of my childhood and I wanted to share the candid lilting of his piano.
Happy Father’s Day, Dad. I love you and miss you forever.
