🥹 The giant puppy who still thinks she’s a dachshund! Aggie was dumped months back at a dog park… with her 6 other siblings — dubbed the “Easton Park 7”. Since she was much smaller at this time, Aggie didn’t realize she wasn’t going to always be the same size as her foster siblings, a pair of adorable dachshunds, forever. She was named Agatha-All-Along-Legs and she kept growing… and growing… and growing!😂 While she did have some interest from others, her foster family has decided that she’s already home. Aggie (and her long legs) now spends her days playing with her two best friends and lounging in the sunshine. We think she hit the jackpot and we bet she’d agree.👏 A huge thank you to her amazing family for nursing her back to health and loving her as she grew into this beautiful happy girl! 😂 Cricket is gaining weight and strength each day! He’s been having his daily weigh-in’s in a paper cup, so we started taking requests. 🥹 From the woods to a soft new bed. Give a warm welcome to sweet little Emmy.🤗 She’d been reported dumped near an event center, and would come up to watch the staff but was too skittish to approach. They left out toys and food in an effort to keep her close while we tried to find a foster. Luckily, one of our regular fosters had space open and invited Emmy to come on over! Big thanks to the multiple team members and volunteers who coordinated the woods to the couch mission. 🌳 —> 🛋️ Little Emmy heads to her intake exam this week & once she’s fully vetted she will ready for adoption! 🤠 To know him is to love him…🥹 Howdy is one of those dogs who when you meet, he just soothes your soul. There’s something about him that is this pure mix of an old soul meets a puppy in a GIANT body. He’s magic. His transformation from roaming on the streets for nearly 11 months, terrified of everyone, to a literal couch potato has been nothing short of a tear-jerker. So many of us have had the honor of dog sitting him and getting more quality time post-capture than we sometimes do and it’s the highlight of our day every time. Howdy is now heartworm negative, has healed up and gained weight and these days clocks in at a healthy 120 lbs. As serendipity would have it, the people who called us to rescue him lived right across the street from his hidey hole. They signed up to be his fosters, but it didn’t take long until we all knew…Howdy was always home — now it’s just official. 😭🎉 Thank you Melissa & Aaron for opening your home, your hearts, and your lives to everyone’s favorite gentle giant. 🥹 We mean… come the heck on! If Winston isn’t the cutest lil old man you’ve ever seen, we quit. 💙 Our buddy has been through so much. He was found in the middle of the street, walking in and out of traffic clearly out of it. Winston is partly blind and had a horrible double eye infection (which he continues to take meds for and will be part of his daily forever care), skin issues, emaciated, something crazy going on with his tail from who knows what. On top of all that — pneumonia, multiple suspicious masses, wasn’t neutered and was heartworm positive. 💔 We had to get him stable first and then move to his surgeries and heartworm treatment. He’s one of our 10 dogs who are currently in or have just completed heartworm treatment.😅 But after everything, he’s a powerhouse little tank! He’s super strong, very active, loves walks and outdoor adventures, but is also completely satisfied to be your couch snuggle buddy. He would do best in a home as an only dog, but that’s mostly because he’s just not interested in being bothered. 😂 He likes to do this own thing and does not find joy in another pup running over to say hello or give him any sniffs. 10 tiny lbs against all the traffic on busy ol’ Mopac expressway… The odds surely weren’t in her favor. But as luck(?) would have it, Nova tumbled across the street after impact right in front of a team member’s car. Cars veering out of the way, and she was scooped to safety just in time. After being rushed to the ER & stabilized, we all saw the worst right away – Nova was paralyzed in her back legs. After an ultrasound & X-rays, the initial big thoughts come swirling “does she need surgery? will she be able to walk? to pee?” She had sensation & reflex response in 3/4 limbs, so we were hopeful, but with most neuro cases…we knew time would tell. But could we buy time? (Literally) Since her fractures weren’t critical & she was stable, a bladder catheter was placed & she remain hospitalized while we decided the next steps. $$$ imaging is usually what’s suggested — MRI’s, CT’s etc. & that often comes with more multi-day hospitalizations. The next day was spent phoning in opinions to our friends. A huge thank you to Dr. Shuman, Dr. Bruce, Dr. Cody, Dr. Q, & Dr Hagler for taking the time to review her case & collaborate with us on next steps for her, and for us, a rescue running on fumes & hope. 💙 We pumped the brakes on the major imaging & we transferred her to the specialty hospital for a neuro exam. The morning of the transfer we walked into VEG with all of the staff very excited to show us the first video you see above. Nova was attempting to stand on her own overnight!😭 After a day at the specialty hospital & neuro eval, we felt even more optimistic. Nova either has a spinal contusion (a bruise on the spinal cord), or a herniated disc. Both of these can be a rehabilitated non-surgically, but again — time will tell. Since she was showing us that she was making improvements, & the neurologist felt confident that she would be able to pee on her own or could be expressed at home, she was discharged for a trial run. Today — Nova peed! 😭 Let the happy tears flow. 🙏😭 Please help us save Nova! Yesterday, a team member witnessed sweet Nova experience some sort of impact (either hit or thrown from car) on a major highway. She tried to get up and drag herself, and the team was able to get her to safety. Multiple eye witnesses have come forward who also saw the traumatic incident today along the highway and sweet Nova trying to scamper away for dear life. Nova was rushed to the ER where she received immediate pain management, x-rays, bloodwork, ultrasound, and an eye stain. She needed to remain hospitalized overnight and she needs to be transported to get a CT scan today and then we’ll know more about what comes next. Her bloodwork shows high liver enzymes and her poor liver definitely took a hit. So far no signs of internal bleeding on ultrasound, but X-rays show possible spinal fracture and pelvic involvement. Right now her pain is being managed, and she’s wagging her tail and we’ve got response in all 4 limbs, so we’re taking the positive where we can. She may need surgery next, and even without surgery, initial costs are currently estimated at $5000. Our medical fund is tapped and we need your help to try and save her.
