The “Breaking Down News” workshop unfolded as a one-day lab for critical reading, rewriting, and creative play 📰✂️
The session created an open space for unpacking media narratives and everyday language, examining how headlines, social media posts, and public discourse construct stereotypes, exclusion, and coded hate speech.
Throughout the workshop, we tackled concepts such as Russell’s conjugation, media bias, framing, and linguistic manipulation, as part of a broader attempt to question how “truth” is produced, and who benefits from sustaining existing narrative systems.
Through collective analysis and rewriting, participants transformed harmful texts into neutral, rights-based, and creative counter-narratives and social commentary, using tools like image/text collage and blackout poetry.
This pilot activity was organised in the framework of the project National youth campaigns against hate speech, which is implemented by the No Hate Speech Network, with the financial support of the European Youth Foundation of the Council of Europe. The views expressed do not necessarily reflect the official position of the Council of Europe.
BREAKING DOWN NEWS — Creative Media Analysis Workshop
Language shapes how we see each other. Headlines, captions, and everyday phrases can carry subtle bias, stereotypes, or even coded hate speech. This workshop is your space to slow down, dissect those narratives, and rebuild them into something rooted in care, creativity, and intentionality.
Join us for a hands-on evening of media analysis, rewriting, collage, and creative counter-narrative making.

BREAKING DOWN NEWS —

The Third Place Presents: EBRA
EBRA (Ebrahem Saleh) is a violinist with over a decade of experience, shaped by his work with ensembles such as the Cairo Improvisation Orchestra and various experimental music workshops. These collaborations inspired his debut musical project and first live performance.
His project unfolds across six musical episodes, each expressing a human emotion that often goes unspoken. Through the voice of the violin, EBRA explores internal states of fragility, tension, hope, and release crafting a contemporary soundscape where unexpressed feelings find their language.

Thank you to everyone who came yesterday, and for giving me the space to perform. For so long, my sanctuary was my room — creating melodies and words, whispers of the night, songs that demanded to be made. I sang in the shadows, alone.
Yesterday was the first time in a very long while that I opened up and shared this part of myself, and I’m deeply grateful to everyone who responded. Grateful to those who chose to share this moment with me as well.
There was an eerie feeling in realizing these songs are no longer mine alone, but the ball is rolling, and I know I will grow with it. 🌕✨
Special thanks to @thethirdplaceeg for the space and for the beginning.

Our excting lineup for the 27th!!
Adam Rose is singer & songwriter. Sitting at the intersection of R&B, neo-soul, and indie, he blends the warmth of soul with the raw intimacy of indie music. Built on organic, folk-inspired, instrument driven arrangements, his work centers around authenticity and storytelling. Rooted in lived experience, honesty, and reflection the result feels both nostalgic and modern; a soulful indie sound ✨
LAIL is born when voices rise to the moon singing She is the oracle of night, a vessel for stories darkness keeps sacred. Through her music, the unseen becomes audible through rhythms that echo like ancient prayers, her sound is ancestral and dreamlike, a remembrance of something the soul knew before the body. LAIL invites you to the sanctuary of the night, where emotion becomes devotion and every note draws you into the mystery 🌑
We can't wait to hear what they have in store for us.
