Not content with making just athlete wear, in the early 90s Umbro decided to move into making the iconic Manager Trench Coat, an iconic clothing choice on match day for football managers all over Europe.
This is the sporty version of the coat, designed to provide more warmth on those colder days.
Although not confirmed, it’s widely believed these were made just for managers, and probably not available to the general public.

Maradona called him the best striker he had ever seen… Here’s 60 seconds of Gabriel Batistuta destroying defences ⚡️
Often needing cortisone injections for the pain in his ankles before he played, the agony was so intense for Batistuta that at one point he begged doctors to amputate… But even with shot ankles he was a menace to back lines everywhere. His turning and positioning was faultless, and the power behind his shots was jaw-dropping. When you look at his goals, in most of them the ball is still rising as it hits the net.
Possessing equal parts loyalty and arrogance, Batigol stayed with Fiorentina at the end of the 92/93 season after they went down, bringing them back up to Serie A - rejecting calls from Real Madrid and Manchester United as he thought winning trophies with them would be “too easy”.
And as if all this wasn’t enough, he’s the only player to score a hat-trick in 2 world cups - a record that still stands to this day…

Is this football’s greatest sponsorship collaboration?
A year after launching the Playstation 2, Sony and Auxerre agreed a deal to have ps2 as their main shirt sponsor (having already featured the ps1 on the previous three season’s kits), and as the console became the most successful in history by 2003, the club’s talisman Djibril Cissé was about to have the best season of his career…
Rarely do you find a season when a team, a shirt, a player and a sponsor collide in such a way that they become completely synonymous with each other.
Auxerre’s 03/04 season was dominated by Djibril, who went on to be the clubs top goalscorer; bagging 30 goals and cementing himself in their history.
Not only did Cissé look like a Playstation game character, he was wearing a shirt that looked like it was designed for an SSX title. Kappa were still banging out minimalistic masterpieces from the tail end of the Kombat range, and in a moment of serendipity, Sony found themselves sponsoring a team who’s colours were an almost pantone match for the ps2 box and general marketing swatches.
Two iconic pieces from Auxerres 2003/04 season, available in this Sunday’s drop, 8pm GMT ⏰
