Strong currents and high winds have washed these big chunks of ice ashore on Beechey Island. Beechey Island is best known for the graves of some of the explorers of the lost Franklin expedition. Still today, it‘s a tradition for ships sailing through the Northwest Passage to stop at this tiny island (which is actually a peninsula of Devon Island) and pay respect to Sir John Franklin.

Ever since I started to watch #TheTerrorAMC, last year, I have been fascinated by the mysterious tragedy of the #franklinexpedition and its ships and crew which were lost in the Arctic ocean off the Canadian coast in the middle of the 19th century while searching for the #northwestpassage. The two ships #HMSTerror and #HMSErebus have since been found, the latter one only a few years ago. The #Canadian postal service has issued a set of commemorative stamps and actor #GordonMorris who played the Erebus’ carpenter #JohnWeekes, was kind enough to raffle them off to fans and I was one of the lucky winners. Thank you, Gordon !
