Meet the Engaged Athlete Fellows!
Today, we’re spotlighting Christine Yu, a student athlete on Claremont McKenna College’s Women’s Golf team.
For Christine, participating in the Engaged Athlete Fellowship is rooted in the Division III experience, where student athletes are deeply committed to both academics and athletics, often under intense pressure with limited support systems that reflect the full reality of that balance. Being an Engaged Athlete Fellow means helping create greater visibility, connection, and encouragement for athletes who deserve to feel supported beyond performance.
Christine’s project focuses on building a culture of encouragement and belonging through two community centered initiatives: team partnerships with local elementary school classrooms and an expanded Game Day Gram program. By connecting student athletes with younger students and amplifying messages of support from peers, faculty, and staff, her work reminds athletes why they love their sport while inspiring the next generation. Rooted in connection, school spirit, and well-being, Christine’s project creates a sustainable support system that strengthens community across campus and beyond.

I had a great experience holding the first Athletes for Access Sports Clinics in collaboration with The Team. Our mission is to connect Michigan student-athletes with kids with disabilities to create connection through the shared passion of sports.
Myself, along with volunteers from @umichfieldhockey , @umichwrestling and @umichrowing , taught the kids a variety of sports as well as collaboration and leaderships skills.
Thank you to @theteamdotorg for advising, supporting and funding this event. Another thank you to @umichathletics and @btownlp for making this possible.
Today we are highlighting Mikayla Paquette, a member of the 2023-2024 Engaged Athlete Fellowship cohort, and a former women’s basketball player at Tufts University.
If you’re ready to use your voice and make an impact like Mikayla, apply for the 2026–2027 Engaged Athlete Fellowship!
I am so grateful for the opportunity to partner with The Team (@theteamdotorg ) and Letters of Love (@lettersofloveglobal ) alongside Alabama A&M University student-athletes (@aamuathletics ) for a meaningful service project focused on encouragement, connection, and community impact.
The goal was to provide student-athletes with an opportunity to use their platform to uplift others through simple acts of kindness and support by drawing cards and writing letters to kids in Children’s Hospitals.
In the end, it was amazing to see nearly every A&M sport represented along with members of the training room staff, administrators, and coaches all coming together for a great cause. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! Bulldog family at its best! 🐾
A huge shoutout to @aamuwsoc , @aamutfxc , and @aamufb for having the highest team turnout and showing what it means to lead through service and community impact!
The Team is an organization dedicated to empowering athletes to become leaders in civic engagement and community impact. Their mission encourages student-athletes to use their voices, influence, and teamwork beyond sports to create positive change in their communities and inspire meaningful action.
Letters of Love is a nonprofit organization that spreads hope and encouragement through handwritten cards and messages for children in hospitals facing difficult circumstances nationwide. Their mission is rooted in reminding people that they are loved, supported, and never alone.
Today we’re spotlighting Katherine Helms, a swimmer at North Carolina State University. Watch to see Katherine’s yearlong community service project through the Engaged Athlete Fellowship Program in action!
For her fellowship project, Katherine led a week long Learn to Swim program for about 15 children in partnership with Neighbor to Neighbor, a nonprofit that supports youth and families in the community. Using NC State’s pool, she taught basic swimming and water safety skills, helping young participants feel more comfortable and confident in the water.

Meet the Engaged Athlete Fellows! Today, we’re spotlighting Tobias Williams, a track & field student-athlete at Duke University and a Fellow through the Engaged Athlete Fellowship with The Team.
For Tobias, the Fellowship is about helping students gain early exposure to opportunities they may not otherwise see. After experiencing a wide range of career insights during high school, he realized that many of his peers did not have the same awareness of different professional paths when they arrived at college. Through this Fellowship, he hopes to help close that gap by sharing knowledge and resources with younger students.
Tobias’ project focuses on teaching local high school students in Durham about careers in the financial services industry. By introducing students to the variety of opportunities within the field, he aims to help them better understand potential career paths and make more informed decisions about their futures after high school.
Through his work, Tobias is empowering students with knowledge and expanding their view of what’s possible, helping the next generation approach their futures with greater confidence and intention.
