Happy and honored to be part of Error 4444’s new Blu-ray of Lee Tso-nam’s Challenge of the Lady Ninja.
I recorded the audio commentary with Paul Fox, where we dive into Lee’s career, lead star Elsa Yang, action veteran Chen Kuan-tai, Robert Tai (sporting a head tattoo), and the wider landscape of Taiwanese cinema of the era.
Pre-orders coming soon at /.
Hope you give it a listen!
Rest in peace the tremendous Ku Feng, a Shaw Brothers veteran with one of the most unique and intense faces in the studio’s golden era. A towering figure in Hong Kong cinema, Ku Feng appeared in everything from Come Drink with Me, Have Sword, Will Travel, Vengeance, and The New One-Armed Swordsman to The Avenging Eagle, always commanding the screen with presence and power.
As reported by Dimsum Daily, Ku Feng passed away on April 10, 2025, at the age of 94. Born in Shanghai and trained in Beijing, he signed with Shaw Brothers in 1965 and went on to appear in around 100 films for the studio, becoming one of its most prolific and recognizable character actors.
He was the consummate character actor—versatile, expressive, and unforgettable, transitioning seamlessly into modern roles in films like Cageman and even playing himself in My Name Is Fame. Across a staggering 385 film credits between 1959 and 2016, Ku Feng delivered a career for the ages.
A working actor’s actor. A legend.
As shared by his wife Judy, sadly martial artist, actor, stunt coordinator, and fight choreographer Richard Norton has passed away.
Richard led a storied life, with incredible stories to tell—from bodyguarding the likes of ABBA and Linda Ronstadt to building a decades-long film career across continents. A lifelong martial artist, he held high-ranking black belts in multiple disciplines, including karate, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and Chun Kuk Do, and co-founded the Zen Do Kai system for practical self-defense.
For Hong Kong action cinema fans, Richard was a standout—a Westerner who truly understood the demands of the genre. Whether working with Sammo Hung in Twinkle Twinkle Lucky Stars and Millionaires Express or going toe-to-toe with Jackie Chan in City Hunter and Mr. Nice Guy, he always brought both precision and presence to the screen.
His later career as a fight coordinator on Mad Max: Fury Road, The Suicide Squad, and other major productions was nothing short of inspiring. Having spoken with him a handful of times on the podcast, I can say he was one of the easiest, warmest conversationalists around—always full of stories, even about things like working on the old Tex Murphy full-motion video games.
A truly astonishing career, and a very kind man. He will be missed.
THE JAIL IN BURNING ISLAND (1997) - Island Of Fire The Next Generation rather as Chu Yen-ping gives us a rerun. There’s a slick movie on display here, with bursts of gunplay and dark violence, stylized cinematography, but drama is flimsy and overwrought.
AN EYE FOR AN EYE contributor copy from Vinegar Syndrome has arrived, and we close up another audio commentary projekt. Me and Phil Gillon got and took the chance to talk of the censored versus uncut version, its Category III content, admiring one of the all time bloody brawls in Hong Kong film and we’re grateful to VS for the chance, to anyone who has picked up the disc, and especially if you listened to our discussion. We hope we left an informative impression, and that we’re welcome back into your blu ray disc player some other time. Also on the disc is a brand new interview with director O Sing-pui, which we as contributors did not have access to. Should be a treat. The Region ABC disc can be purchased from vinegarsyndrome.com.
Done. Not done. Waiting for the brain to come up with more ideas.
Thanks @good.guys.tattoo for the stellar work.

My copy of NINJA TERMINATOR has arrived and we archive a 1+ year project for us contributors. Telling the IFD story with Phil G on one of the audio commentaries, you’ll get an insight into why old movies were spiced up with ninja- and Garfield phone-footage, and why actor Richard Harrison hated it all.
If you managed to pick up the limited edition, you’re also treated to the full South Korean action movie (featuring Hwang Jang-lee in a blonde wig) THE UNINVITED GUEST OF THE STAR FERRY. So, you can see for yourself what a movie was like before IFD and Godfrey Ho made a new, internationally marketable film out of it.
Thanks to Jared Auner and Neon Eagle Video for the opportunity. We don’t do these audio commentaries often and it’s nice to do one for a project so rich on information and context.
Closing the loop on another project as contributors to films on blu ray disc! Complimentary copy arrived for Billy Tang’s Run And Kill, with me and Phil Gillon entertaining you on one of the audio commentaries talking the director, its darkly comedic vs disturbing tone and the history of Category III.
Thank you for the opportunity Error 4444 and looking forward to working with you boys again. Especially since you sent out a comp copy of Scissor Penis too. I didn’t know I was missing it in my life but now I can’t live without it.
Another loop closes on a project. Got my copy of Fatal Termination on blu ray from Error 4444. Contributing the audio commentary for Andrew Kam’s violent Moon Lee actioner, even without a day to day account of the production we do a deep dive on the director and stars, its reception and the breathtaking action that leans towards completely irresponsible too. It was a joy to research and discuss the film with Phil Gillon and to also see the first run sell out so quickly. I’ve lived with the film for quite a while so now it will go on the pile, to be screened sometime in the future.
Hope you all get a chance to sample our commentary and the style we bring to it.
Cookies and love included.
Onto the next thing.
A good group of diverse films and diverse audio commentaries from me and the boys (Paul Quinn, Phil Gillon, Paul Fox) dating back to 2019. And an additional three are in the can and a fourth is being worked on.
I hope we haven’t overwhelmed your ears as these blu ray discs have entered into your collections. These represent personal challenges on a work ethic-level but we aim to spread our voices beyond the podcast too. By putting in work we’d like to hear ourselves and deliver at a professional level with plenty of room to improve.
Happy to announce something we’ve had to withhold this year: Me and Phil G will do the audio commentary for Fatal Termination, released by Error 4444!
The label behind Red Spell Spells Red and Centipede Horror will put out this gnarly and nasty Hong Kong actioner on blu ray that includes the infamous stunt of a girl hanging out the window of a speeding car. Welcome to the way Hong Kong films used to be. Cast and crew interviews will be on the disc as well and pre-orders with a bunch of packing options will start on July 17th.

KILL BUTTERFLY KILL, from Neon Eagle Video. Featuring an audio commentary with myself and Paul Fox discussing Taiwanese cinema, the different cuts of the film, cast and crew etc.
It’s an honour and thrill to finally have the inaugural release from Neon Eagle Video in my hands, and to be speaking on the disc. This Taiwanese female revenge piece is presented here in its original Mandarin version, the English dubbed export cut by IFD Films & Arts (the ninja people actually were distributors of full films too) and the later recut (as American Commando 6) featuring new scenes with IFD regular Mike Abbot. It was in particular gratifying to be talking over the Kill Butterfly Kill edit because of the (better) editorial changes vs the original, it gave me a chance to further my knowledge of Taiwanese cinema and Paul Fox was there to verbalise it much better than I ever could since Taiwan and its film industry was affected by real life turmoil. It led to a really interesting period of films.
Thanks again to Neon Eagle Video and Jared Auner for the confidence in us and we’re very pleased the track has been well received. Get the region ABC release at Cauldron Films and DiabolikDVD.
Onto the next project, with cookies and love in hand.
