In Rural Anatolia
Absurd rock formations and omniscient snowcaps in the heart of eastern Türkiye. A village of old men rolling on with life, smoking cigarettes and playing backgammon. They walk beneath a wall of grey mountains, their houses shrouded in a deep winter fog.
The call to prayer crackles from the minarets, and a voice fills the valley like a god leaning down through the clouds. Sometimes flakes of snow fall. The weather grows ever colder…

Soccer in Tagounite
It’s just a bare-bones concrete plaza dug into this small desert town. Tiles cracking, fallen framework, a sandpit right in the middle. A bunch of boys and a ball that really needs more air. Improvised bike parts. Riding around like they’ve got nine lives. They make good use of what they’ve got here. It’s all they need, and they have a game.

Crossing the High Atlas
It’s a rough and unforgiving landscape up in the clouds. Mountains made of gravel, deep-cut ravines, an endless and barren plateau. Still, when you’re up there, and you look back at the path you’ve climbed from, you see the world as it really is. The most monumental ridgeline, running so far out it slips into a white haze against the sky.
It’s something, try as I might, photos can’t quite capture.
