It feels fitting to close Folio with Julia Chesal, owner of The Study Studios. She is a mother, a creative force, and a woman who has shaped Calgary’s creative community with intention and a stunning, versatile studio space. Her studios were the first spaces I ever shot in, and they set the stage for how I see beauty and storytelling. Each setup she creates showcases her eye for detail and her profound sense of pride in its elements.
Julia herself is just as grounding. Thoughtful, warm, and deeply intuitive, she has built more than a studio. She has created a space where people feel welcome to show up and celebrate everything that matters. Her influence has given so many of us a place to create, grow, and be a part of something truly so, so beautiful.

“Womanhood shows up in so many ways in my business, some predictable and others surprising. I find the creative world is an easy space as a woman, it’s the business side that pushes me out of my comfort zone. It’s truly my female intuition that guides me faithfully.
The other powerful side of being a woman is that we have a strong community, which might be the best part of entrepreneurship. Many of us are also mothers, which was my biggest push towards starting my business. The community of mothers is a fierce one that overflows onto the business side in a beautiful way.
