📢 URGENT: Seeking all puppy lovers and Seeing Eye supporters! We are in critical need of Seeing Eye puppy raisers to help us continue our mission of providing enhanced independence to people who are blind. 📢 Puppy raisers are volunteers of all ages, from all walks of life, who care for a German shepherd, golden retriever, Labrador retriever or Lab/golden cross puppy for its first year (from 2 months old to about 14 months old). There is no experience required, and it’s ok if you have pets in your home already. The Seeing Eye provides you with the resources to teach house manners, basic obedience skills, and socialize them to all kinds of people and everyday experiences. You aren't alone in this adventure! Every puppy raiser is part of a puppy club in their community, which allows you to connect with other puppy raisers and receive support from club leaders and Seeing Eye staff members. If you're still not convinced, The Seeing Eye covers the cost of all veterinary bills and food. Learn more about how you can make a difference by joining a warm and supportive community of volunteers through the link in our bio. PD: Three Seeing Eye puppies—a German shepherd, golden retriever, and black Lab—wearing Seeing Eye puppy raising program bandanas sit and stand on stone pavers outside the Seeing Eye's main entrance. The German shepherd sniffs the golden retriever while the golden retriever and Lab look ahead. Paw pals 🖊️📬 While the dog they raised is in training, Seeing Eye puppy raisers will receive a handwritten postcard from the instructor who is training the pup they raised with updates on how the dog is doing. Instructors let them know things like what the pup is excelling at, what their favorite off-duty activity is, or even who their best dog friends are. In addition to the postcard, raisers also receive a letter when the dog has been matched with their handler, which includes an adorable photo of them posing in their harness! Learn more about our volunteer puppy raising program through the link in our bio! PD: A golden retriever curiously looks up at the postcard his instructor holds up in front of him while in the outdoor seating area of a local coffee shop in downtown Morristown. #theseeingeye #guidedog #goldenretriever

The grades are in 🧑‍🏫🐕‍🦺 Today, we released our State of Access Report Card, which grades and ranks every U.S. state, Washington, D.C. and Puerto Rico on how well they protect the rights of people who work with service dogs to travel independently and live without compromising their freedom. This first-of-its-kind data-driven ranking is meant to be a resource for everyone with a stake in service dog handler rights. Whether you are a handler navigating your daily life, an advocate pushing for stronger protection, or a lawmaker with the power to close the gap this data reveals, we hope our report presents a clear picture of where your state stands, along with a roadmap for what meaningful progress looks like. See how your state scored! PD: 1 – A graphic features a questions mark over the map of the United States, including Puerto Rico, and The Seeing Eye’s logo.
