Steppin into Monday Like... The Live Show. A true testament to courage, dedication, artistry and ingenuity. When @timlaska_atoms offered me a slot to rock back in May for 20 plus min, I thought he was nuts. 10 min on stage is a lifetime. So 20 min felt like a 3 hour movie. And I hadn't rocked in 6 years. I wanted to say no. HELL no. But I hadn't rocked in 6 years. AND i had an album dropping! So I trained for it. Literally. Tried to do my set while on the step machine and treadmill at the gym a week before. And I learned something ILL. Being winded while trying to get the words out forced me to cut out words just to breathe. It was a eureka moment. "I could cut words out my own song to give me extra breathing time. Nobody would know cause they don't know the music." Changed the game and made me more confident. Now how do I get thru 20 friggin minutes and keep it entertaining? Where had I seen that done? This is the ingenuity part. I decided to treat my performance like a comedian's set. The best comedians tell a story. Make it all connect. So between songs I told jokes.. I talked shit... drank water. Tied my kicks 🤣 (tripping on stage wires mid performance is no bueno) And it brought the people in. They laughed. Vibed wit a Bro. Me and @ksise realized during our 10,000 hour open mic attendances (shout to The Pyramid in the LES) that crowd participation is great for a set. At the last minute I remembered I had a routine and decided to try it. The response blew me away. That 2nd "jun" was low because I was in shock from the crowd response. The Lesson: I rocked for over 20 min with no hype man. No background vocals. Just me, a microphone and my man #SQ on the 1s and 2s. If You read to this point, You are a real one. And I thank You. Wifey forced me to man up by telling me to go live for the performance.
