itās my b day and feeling reflective so here comes a long self indulgent life update nobody asked for!!
most of my friends probably already know a lot of this, but in case i havenāt had this conversation with you or if youāre curious where iāve been at, hereās your answer š«¶
3 1/2 years ago i got a really weird neck injury snowboarding, which despite trying every kind of treatment you can imagine i have still had very little success in healing or honestly even properly diagnosing what is causing so much prolonged pain. i have some theories but those would exceed the character count on here so if youāre curious for more detail feel free to ask me about it!
iāve had some moments over the years where i felt strong to enough to ride a little bit, especially in powder which is much easier on my neck. sadly though iād still be really sore after every day of riding and eventually it kinda just became too frustrating to try to push through the pain only to end up suffering for it later. constant pain was taking the fun out of the thing i love doing the most and that was driving me insane, so i decided to step away from snowboarding for a while for the sake of my own sanity and actually try to take the proper time to fully heal.
as someone who has already had a history of depression, losing the central focus in my life for these last few years has really messed with me mentally. fortunately though, iāve had amazing support from family and friends whoāve helped me feel a lot more comfortable about loving who i am as a whole individual and valuing more things about myself than just what i can do on a snowboard. i was sick of being defined by my injury and sitting around feeling sorry for myself, so i decided to go back to school. iām now studying film which is my other biggest passion and i can honestly say iām loving it so far and feel insanely lucky to be on this new path. believe it or not, i wouldnāt change a thing about where iām at. snowboarding is always in my heart and iāll come back when the time is right, but now iām hitting the books and feeling really good about it š
sorry for the long post and thanks for reading if you got this far, i love you all ā¤ļø
