Massive gratitude and huge thanks to @colsfoundation . They were the reason thee @archiegriffin45 presented my dad @iambobbyfloyd with this year’s Spirit Of Columbus Award. Words can NOT express my appreciation for this incredible surprise that, by the way, the entire audience, Band, and our family was all in on 😆 🤭 hehe.
The backstory ⬇️
So this had been planned months in advance. We got a call from the board of TCF and learned that this was an annual event that my dad and his band had already played the last 5 years.
So for dad, this was another gig. He was used to playing on the stage as someone new receive the award each year.
But this time was different. Needless to say, we and a few surprise band members were escorted in through the back to hide until it was the perfect time (knowledge of our presence would’ve obviously tipped him off.)
Then came the moment of truth. As soon as they began to gear up to name the 2026 award recipient, that was when they snuck the family to our table.
Imagine… the crescendo drum roll, the band holding the room in suspense, and the build of musical anticipation…

Bobby Floyd!!! 🥲🥲🥹🥹🥹 … dad almost falls out of his seat

The crowd roared into cheering applause! As the audience stood to their feet, we emerged from the center, in between the packed crowd of ppl, to greet, surprise and support dad with our attendance, as he accepted the honorable Spirit Of Columbus Award with tears in his eyes!
To The Columbus Foundation: Once again, words cannot express what this means to my dad and our family! You guys executed beautifully, and I appreciate that you are taking on the responsibility to honor those who deserve to be honored because of their impact on the community! You guys are doing great work.
I don’t know any other way to explain it except that my father is a legend. 👑 I am so lucky to have been the only child born to him and my mom. I don’t know what I did in heaven before I got here, but it must’ve been real good to deserve a dad like him! We are infinitely proud 😍😍😍
