Discover a hidden cultural gem in Abbotsford @thereachgallery a must-visit art destination Until the end of May, experience Parallaxe—a powerful exhibition uncovering the history and impact of the 49th parallel. Featuring rare 19th-century maps, photographs, watercolours, and contemporary Indigenous and settler artworks, it reimagines how we see borders, land, and identity. Through sculpture, photography, poetry, installation, and new media, Parallaxe challenges the story of the Canada–U.S. border and what exists beyond political lines. Perfectly timed with the vibrant Abbotsford Tulip Festiva,, this is one of BC’s most underrated cultural stops fit for the whole family 📍32388 Veterans Way, Abbotsford, BC @tourismabbotsdord #AbbotsfordBC #FraserValley #ExploreBC #ArtExhibition #TulipFestival *AD

Step into Kanaka Ranch, a personal and historic model reconstruction along the Vancouver shoreline. This is just one incredible piece found within our 𝘗𝘢𝘳𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘢𝘹(𝘦): 𝘗𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘱𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘴 𝘰𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘊𝘢𝘯𝘢𝘥𝘢–𝘜.𝘚. 𝘉𝘰𝘳𝘥𝘦𝘳 exhibition. Dr. T’uy’t’tanat Cease Wyss brought this history to life using natural materials like moss and stones, collected directly from the site. This Hawaiian settlement dates back to when Hudson’s Bay ships traveled the Pacific and brought Hawaiian sailors for their expert navigation. Some stayed on the West Coast, marrying into Indigenous families and leaving a lasting legacy still seen in Fort Langley and beyond. This exhibition runs until May 30th! If you would like to explore it virtually, scroll our feed for highlights! . . . 🖼️ T’uy’t’tanat Cease Wyss (Sḵwx̱wú7mesh / Stó:lō / Hawaiian / Swiss) 𝘙𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘮𝘣𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘒𝘢𝘯𝘢𝘬𝘢 𝘙𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘩: 𝘟̱é𝘤𝘩𝘹̱𝘦𝘤𝘩 𝘵𝘢 𝘚𝘸á7𝘢𝘮-𝘤𝘩𝘵, 2025 single-channel projection, 31 mins Collection of the artist 🖼️ T’uy’t’tanat Cease Wyss (Sḵwx̱wú7mesh / Stó:lō / Hawaiian / Swiss) 𝘒𝘢𝘯𝘢𝘬𝘢 𝘙𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘩: 𝘈 𝘔𝘢𝘲𝘶𝘦𝘵𝘵𝘦, 2025 3D model on a birch plywood base with felt, wool, foam board, stones, sand, charcoal, moss, lichens, air-dried clay, and driftwood and cedar from the Kanaka Ranch site Collection of the artist . . . #bcmuseums #thereachgallerymuseum #bcartsandculture #parallaxeexhibit #borderstories

Our border isn’t just a line on a map - it’s a story 🇨🇦🇺🇸 This exhibit in Abbotsford completely reframes how you might think the 49th parallel came to be. From historic maps created with Indigenous knowledge to contemporary Indigenous art, it shows how much history - and how many perspectives - exist beyond what we’re usually taught. 🤔 It’s thoughtful, eye-opening, and worth seeing in person so check out Parallax(e): Perspectives on the Canada–U.S. Border until May 30th at the Reach Gallery Museum. 👀 #abbotsford #vancouverdaytrip #canadahistory #artgallery #explorebc

This piece by Jaune Quick-to-See Smith carries a profound emotional weight. The blue that fills the background represents the tears of Indigenous people as culture, language, and connection were threatened and taken. It asks us to look closely, to acknowledge the weight of these experiences, and to honour the voices behind them. . . . 🖼️ Jaune Quick-to-See Smith (Citizen of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Nation) (1940–2025) 𝘔𝘢𝘱 𝘵𝘰 𝘏𝘦𝘢𝘷𝘦𝘯, 2002 lithograph with Chine collé on paper Missoula Art Museum, Gift of Jaune Quick-to-See Smith, 2006.16.09 . . . #bcmuseums #thereachgallerymuseum #bcartsandculture #parallaxeexhibit #borderstories
