What is Karagöz Puppetry? ❓
Karagöz is a traditional form of Turkish Shadow theatre. 🎭 It features puppets called tasvirs which are made from camel or water buffalo skin and controlled with sticks. The stories often feature characters such as Karagöz, a witty peasant who often becomes the target of jokes and pranks, and Hacivat, a culturally aware and self-proclaimed brilliant companion. While the traditional art of Karagöz is fading, performers such as Ayhan Hulagu are bringing this form of theatre to modern audiences and different cultures!
