You all really loved our Russian vs. French pointe shoe video, so here’s a more in-depth comparison of the two shoes!
Did you already know these differences?
Twisting may come from many different reasons.
Flexible feet that roll easily and can’t hold a consistent center.
Tapered or asymmetrical feet that place more weight on one side.
High-profile, wide feet that are narrow in the heel.
The list goes on.
Twisting may improve over time as strength and control build but for most of these foot types, it can take years.

Bunion surgery for ballerinas is a trade-off:
PROS
Pain relief (in and out of shoes)
May stop progression of the bunion
Better pointe shoe fit (less friction, less padding)
Can extend a career if pain is severe
CONS
Loss of range of motion (biggest one)
Less push-off power (jumps, turns, speed)
Long recovery (6–12+ months to pointe)
Risk of stiffness or overcorrection
No guarantee you’ll return to the same level
You may still need shoe modifications
Surgery doesn’t give you a perfect foot.
It gives you a different one.
