Life lately:
26.2 miles done. Medal around my neck. Adrenaline at an all time high. I felt unstoppable.
Then I woke up 3 days later and my body had other plans.
Dragged. By a dump truck. For 26.2 miles. That’s the only way to describe it. So naturally I did what any analytical girly does — went down a rabbit hole on Beyoncé’s internet trying to figure out what was happening to me. Turns out it has a name: Runner’s Flu.
Nobody talks about this until you’re already in it. And here I was — not a western medicine girly (idc idc, save it) — trying every natural remedy, resting hard, only to get knocked back down within 12 hours like girl sit down.
I’m not sharing this for sympathy. I’m healed. My body is strong. We’re back.
I’m sharing this for the runner who just crossed a finish line and has no idea what’s coming. Your body just did something extraordinary — and extraordinary effort has a recovery tax. Pay it. Rest. Be gentle with yourself. You only get one body and it just carried you farther than most people will ever go.
Honor that. Then get back up.
Now let’s get back to the regularly scheduled program. 🖤
