Space118 Art Foundation is pleased to announce the recipients of the first edition of the Space118 Art Foundation Curatorial Research Grant 2026! Sharjah Art Foundation (SAF), in collaboration with Space118 Art Foundation, has initiated a Professional Development Programme centred around SAF’s annual March Meeting beginning in 2026.  March Meeting is an annual convening of art professionals and institutions conceived to foster networking, connection and the exchange of ideas and expertise. Designed as a research and travel-based programme, the grant supports curators in exploring diverse art practices, engaging with institutions across India and Sharjah, and developing a curatorial report or intervention. Post the selection process, we decided to award the grant to two candidates - Premjish Achari (@thepartialprofile ) and Sukanya Deb (@shookanya ) Congratulations to our awardees! @sharjahart #space118artfoundation #curatorialresearchgrant #indiancurators #contemporaryart

The poster of the second part of Impacts feature the 1869 graphic designed by the French Civil Engineer, Charles Joseph Minnard, usually referred as “Napoleon’s March”. I came across this image few years ago when developing a visual approach for art practitioners that is not solely dependent on art historical images. While researching and collating details on scientific imaging and data visualization I came across this fascinating piece of work that Edward Tuft calls as maybe “the best statistical graphic ever produced.” It was the best discovery ever and through Minard I learnt about the statistical marvel and infographics of Florence Nightingale who we all popularly study as the founder of modern nursing. In order to influence medical reforms Nightingale would device not only statistical graphics but also will think through how they will be seen. Check out her coxcomb that is an early version of modern pie graph. Minard put flow lines on the map so that they speak to the eyes and they do so s very strongly. From the flow of coal and wine to people and languages one could see the movement of data in his visualization. The graphic in the poster shows the number of men in Napoleon’s army, their movements, and also the temperature they faced during their return. I will be talking about this image in great detail, mainly its complexity and the affective impacts but also about why we should look at images carefully besides artistic images. Chimuk Kaur, Lipi Wadhawan and Sonia Mehra Chawla will present their single images and will talk about how they encountered it, their internalisation and also mediation into artworks or other forms of interventions. Please join us on 4th July 2025, 6pm at KNMA Saket. The registration link is at KNMA bio. @knmaindia

WHAT IS TO BE DONE? Lenin, Artistic Research, and the Next step of Practice Masterclass by Premjish Achari @thepartialprofile Presented by @a4a_foundation . 📅 Saturday, 23 May 2026 ⏰ 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM 📍 W-114, Greater Kailash II, New Delhi Free entry | Prior registration required from the link in bio or website Seats are limited, and confirmations will be on a first-come, first-served basis. In 1902, Lenin asked a deceptively simple question, ‘What is to be done?’, and produced one of the most precise analysis of why intelligent, urgent, and committed movements fail to become consequential. This masterclass borrows that question for a very different but structurally similar problem: why does artistic practice, however urgent, intelligent, and ethically serious, so often remain captured by the very systems it seeks to question? Drawing on Lenin’s distinction between spontaneous response and organised consciousness, the session proposes a framework for thinking the “next steps” of artistic research radically, understanding the dialectical tension between thought and material constraint, planning practice as sustained inquiry rather than a sequence of projects, and building the collaborative and institutional structures through which serious artistic research becomes durable. #PremjishAchari #Masterclass #ArtResearch #ArtPractice DelhiArt IndianArt ArtistTalk #ArtForArtFoundation CriticalPractice
