Before Atlanta became the center of the culture…before the world recognized the South…two young artists from the Westside created a sound that changed hip hop forever.
In 1996, Outkast released ATLiens — an album that didn’t just represent Atlanta… it defined it.
Recorded throughout 1995 and 1996, the project was built alongside the Dungeon Family inside The Dungeon — Rico Wade’s legendary basement studio where creativity, soul, funk, and Southern reality all came together.
With contributions from Goodie Mob, Sleepy Brown, and the production genius of Organized Noize, the album introduced the world to a futuristic Atlanta sound unlike anything hip hop had ever heard before.
The South wasn’t trying to fit in anymore. Atlanta was creating its own wave.
This wasn’t just an album coming out of the South...this was Atlanta planting its flag in hip hop history. We Ran The City Documentary coming soon‼️
