Today, we had the privilege of welcoming Rachelle Dorne to speak with our students about her late father, Arthur Dorne, and his experiences surviving the Holocaust. Through personal stories and reflection, students were given the opportunity to connect history to real lives and experiences in a deeply meaningful way. We are grateful to Dr. Dorne for sharing her family’s story with our community.

👩‍🏫 Every Student Deserves to Be Known One of the biggest advantages of small class sizes and having two teachers in every classroom is the ability to provide truly individualized attention. In our classrooms, teachers are able to work with students in small groups, adjust lessons based on readiness levels, and make sure each child is both supported and challenged. It also means students are known not just by name, but by how they learn best. The result is a classroom environment where students can build confidence, stay engaged, and continue growing at their own pace.

From large events and celebrations to the small touches that make school life so special, your time, energy, and dedication helped create countless memorable experiences for our students, families, and staff. A strong community doesn’t happen by accident, and we are so grateful for all that you do behind the scenes to make Nysmith such a special place. Thank you for an amazing year!

💼 Upper School Career Week Career Week is back this week for our Upper School! While snow may have delayed us in February, we’re excited to bring it to life now with grade-level, field-specific panels. Students will hear directly from professionals across a range of industries learning about career paths, daily work, and what they enjoy most about what they do. It’s a great opportunity to ask questions, gain perspective, and start thinking about the many possibilities ahead. We’re grateful to the speakers who are sharing their time and experiences with our students.

🌌May the Fourth Be With You Today, our community celebrated Star Wars Day with students and teachers showing off their favorite characters from a galaxy far, far away. From Jedi to droids, it was a fun way to bring a little extra creativity and excitement into the school day. Sometimes, it’s the small moments like these that make school a little more memorable.

From the lessons they teach to the encouragement they give, our teachers help shape not only how students learn, but how they grow in confidence, curiosity, and character. A world-class education begins with extraordinary educators, and we are so grateful for the passion, care, and dedication they bring to our community. Thank you to all of our teachers for everything you do.

🚀 Learning in Action Our 6th graders recently took math outside by launching rockets to explore quadratics in a hands-on way! By measuring flight paths and analyzing the results, students were able to see how the concepts they learn in class apply in the real world. Hands-on learning isn’t limited to science labs or robotics competitions. Whether it’s math, language arts, or social studies, bringing lessons to life helps students make stronger connections and keeps learning meaningful. Sometimes the best way to understand a concept is to watch it take off.

Grandparents’ Day at Nysmith We loved welcoming our extended Nysmith family to campus for Grandparents’ Day, with over 400 grandparents joining us for a special morning together. From spending time in classrooms to seeing what their grandchildren are learning, it was a meaningful opportunity to share a glimpse of daily life at Nysmith. One of the highlights was visiting the Book Fair together, where grandparents and students could slow down and enjoy a story side by side. Thank you to everyone who joined us; it’s moments like these that make our community so special.

🫀 Preschool Parade🧠 Our Preschool students wrapped up their human body unit with one of our favorite traditions the Parade! Students proudly walked through the school showcasing all they’ve learned, from organs to systems, bringing their knowledge to life in a fun and memorable way. Moments like this are a wonderful reminder that even our youngest learners can dive deep into big ideas especially when learning is hands-on, creative, and fun.
