On 25th April, 1989 at Prince Mohammed Bin Fahd Stadium in Dammam, Saudi Arabia, Nigerian football recorded one of the greatest comeback stories EVER recorded in world football history!
The Flying Eagles of Nigeria faced the Soviet Union U-20 in the quarter-final of the FIFA World Youth Championship.
And what happened next? Nobody could believe it.
😳 At halftime… Nigeria were down 0-4
💔 Early second half… still 0-4
❌ Game over? Everyone thought so.
But Nigeria said NO.
⚡ 61’ – GOAL! (Oladimeji Lawal)
⚡ 75’ – GOAL!! (Christopher Ohenhen)
⚡ 83’ – GOAL!!! (Samuel Elijah)
⚡ 84’ – GOAL!!!! Captain Nduka Ugbade makes it 4-4!!!
From 0-4… to 4-4 in just minutes 😱🔥
The impossible became POSSIBLE.
Then came penalties…
🇳🇬 Nigeria held their nerves and won 5-3!
💪 From humiliation… to making HISTORY
💪 From defeat… to DESTINY
💪 From 0-4… to IMMORTALITY
This match became forever known as:
✨ THE DAMMAM MIRACLE ✨
A reminder that:
NEVER GIVE UP. NEVER STOP BELIEVING.
🇳🇬 Nigeria went on to reach the final of the tournament

Nigeria’s U-20 women’s national team, the Falconets, have safely arrived in Ijebu-Ode following three weeks of intensive camping in Abuja as they step up preparations for their crucial World Cup qualifying fixture.
The team will conduct training sessions at the Remo Stars Stadium in nearby Ikenne-Remo, where focus has now shifted fully to match readiness. Team morale remains high, with players showing strong determination and cohesion as preparations continue for the first leg encounter against Malawi scheduled for Saturday, 2nd May.
The return leg is set to take place in Malawi on May 9. The Falconets are targeting a convincing performance in the first leg to secure a competitive advantage as they push for qualification to the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup finals, which Poland will host 5th – 26th September.
We commiserate with the family of Henry Nwosu on his passing.
A member of Nigeria’s historic squad that won the 1980 African Cup of Nations.
Rest in peace 🕊️!
