The passing of the Victims and Courts Bill into law is an important step towards creating a justice system that better recognises, protects and supports survivors. But for many women, particularly those facing multiple unmet needs or who have experience of the criminal justice system, accessing justice remains far from straightforward. Women experiencing domestic abuse, trauma, homelessness, mental ill health, substance use, poverty or coercion are too often navigating systems that were never designed around their realities. Many have histories of exploitation and victimisation, yet still face stigma, disbelief and barriers when seeking support or reporting abuse. For women with justice involvement, these challenges are even more pressing. Too often, women are seen only through the lens of offending rather than as victims, survivors and individuals with complex experiences that require understanding, advocacy and specialist support. This is why investment in women’s centres is critical. Read our full response and CEO comments using the news and updates link in our bio.

Volunteer with us at our Swindon Women’s Centre! 📣 Our lunch clubs are one of the most important parts of our women’s centre timetable. They give women the chance to connect with friends and peers, while enjoying a hearty, home-cooked meal in a safe and welcoming environment. For some, this may sadly be the only meal they receive that day. 🍴As a Lunch Club Volunteer in Swindon, you will help plan menus, purchase ingredients and prepare nutritious meals, ensuring no one goes hungry. 👉For more information and details on how to apply, visit the link in our bio.

Maternal Mental Health Awareness Week 👣 👣 Support for mothers is vital. 1️⃣ in 5️⃣ women experience mental health issues during the postnatal period, and tragically, suicide is the leading cause of maternal death in the UK. 👉 Research has shown that women who have had children removed are 14 times more likely to die than the average woman - a truly harrowing statistic. 💔 The removal of a child can be a deeply traumatic experience, particularly when children have been removed on more than one occasion, but there is little support available for women who have experienced this. ❤️‍🩹At The Nelson Trust, through our RISE project in Somerset and our partnership with Pause in Gloucester, we support women who have experienced the removal of children from their care. Our teams work alongside women before and after the process. They encourage women to focus on themselves through trauma‑informed support, helping them to create lasting, positive change in their lives, for themselves and for their children. If you have been affected by the removal of children from your care, please reach out to the RISE team in Somerset: 👉 /rise/ Or contact our Pause team in Gloucester: 📧 [email protected]

Staff Wellbeing Day at the Hub Academy!🎨 Our recovery services team recently took part in a staff wellbeing day where they experienced the activities and workshops our clients enjoy as part of their treatment. Staff got creative with woodwork, stained glass, glass fusing and art, before enjoying moments of respite and self care through Pilates, acupuncture, a sound gong session and relaxing massages💆 Workshops and activities such as these are a vital part of our treatment programme. They promote self care and wellbeing, and enhance clients’ recovery capital. They are also crucial in strengthening staff wellbeing, and it’s fair to say they were well deserving of some much needed respite💜

Big changes to renting agreements in England come into effect today under the new Renters’ Rights Act! So, what does this mean? There will be no more: ❌ Section 21 evictions ❌ Bidding wars on rent ❌ Fixed-term tenancies As part of West of England Renters’ Rights Act Awareness Week, Bristol Women’s Centre hosted a women-only drop-in session for women privately renting across the West of England, focusing on what these changes mean for them. 👉 You can also find out what these changes mean for you at WE-rent.org.uk

👟Meet one of our fundraising heroes, John, who has taken on the mammoth challenge of a double marathon, first the iconic London Marathon this weekend, followed by the Dublin Marathon in October, to help raise vital funds in recognition of the work our organisations do to support vulnerable women and provide lifeline services. The money he raises will be supporting The Nelson Trust and @one25_charity , as John’s cousin, Grace, was sadly murdered in 2018 while backpacking in New Zealand. To honour Grace’s life, her family created @lovegrace_uk , a project that donates handbags filled with essential items to organisations supporting women in the community💜 We’re wishing you the very best of luck this weekend, John. We can’t thank you enough for your incredible dedication and support! 💫 🔗 You can read John’s fundraising story and make a donation using the News and Updates link in our bio.
