I took these photos shortly after Louis’ death. I was mourning him and saw these light reflections on my walls. I had never noticed them before, now I notice them all the time. Thanks buddy! .

It’s been a year since Louis passed. He’d always have eyes on me. Sometimes from afar cause I was watering the yard. He wasn’t a fan of water like I am. I miss you Lou!

Sophie didn’t enjoy being photographed, she often considered it torture — nonetheless I’d persist and she would oblige. She was however an enthusiast of many other things — walks, skateboarding, soccer, nerf golf, aquatics, plushy toys, fine cuisine and most of the time — her brother Louis.
When I’d come home (whether I was gone for 5 minutes or 5 days), she’d see me but not immediately greet me. Frantically, she’d go find just the right toy first and then return to welcome me. With the toy in her mouth, she’d shimmy and dance around while making little grunts and snorts. If you tried to contain her (so you could hug and pet her), she’d just worm out of your grasp like a trout and continue shimmying until she got tired, often falling asleep with the toy still in her mouth.
When Louis passed 11 months ago, I had a feeling that Sophie might not be too far behind him. I was right. For the first time in over fifteen years, my wife and I find ourselves without the companionship of a dog and have decided to see what that is like for a while. It is the end of an era, the Sophie and Louis era and what an era it was! Thank you two for everything.
Sophie you really were the best. Rest in peace my little girl, you are profoundly missed.
I love you Sophie!
