I’ve directed 12 short films since 2013. Drama, romantic dramedy, lots of horror, suspense… but I’ve never directed action or science fiction. I wrote the first draft of this script in 2014 but it was always a little too ambitious for us to make. It’s probably still too ambitious but #yolo am I right?! And come on, how sick is this logo? We’ve launched a crowdfunding campaign and we could really use your help to bring this story to life. If you’re feeling generous, check out @recursion_film and follow the link in our bio to make a donation. Thank you so much for your continued support! #indiefilm #crowdfunding #recursion #filmmaking

Haven’t posted in a while so here’s some iPhone photos of my babies. Turns out with enough editing and film grain, the iPhone takes some pretty decent pictures! #iphoneography #dogstagram #catsofinstagram #dogdad #catdad

When your homie @justinstone_ captures you in a moment of deep reflection and definitely *not* posing in a perfect beam of light.

Looking into buying a photo camera so I can start taking more pictures and maybe hang some prints in my apartment that are *not* Ghostbusters-themed. Took a few shots of the babies last week and these images are straight from the camera, no editing or filters. Like everyone else on the planet I’m very impressed with the @fujifilmx_us x100vi which I guess is why they’ve been out of stock forever. Thanks to @nickvandervegt for letting me borrow yours for a few days! #photography #fujifilm #fujifilmx100vi #dogsofinstagram #catsofinstagram #lordbensington #dogdad #catdad

Lovely day being tourists with some of my favorite people. The Griffith Observatory, a bangin’ lunch in Los Feliz, attempting to do acrobatics at Muscle Beach, sunset and sushi at the Santa Monica Pier. Action packed weekend. Gotta start taking more pics to prove any of those things actually happened. #losangeles #laphoto #sony #hollywood #griffithobservatory #santamonica #santamonicapier🎡 #musclebeach

Well, I’ve officially lived in LA for a full year! I won’t lie, making this move on my own was tough, and the first few weeks were scary. But it didn’t take long for this amazing city to feel like home. I probably didn’t step out of my comfort zone and experience as much as I should have (and I definitely didn’t take enough photos!) but I still packed a lot into this year. Bentley and I welcomed Lola and Cali to the family, we drove around the city doing ALL the touristy stuff, I had a meeting with a successful producer on the Warner Bros. lot, I spent more time at the beach with B than I’ve ever spent at a beach in my entire life, I went to Dodgers games, I filmed behind the scenes content of a veteran Hollywood cinematographer, saw a movie premiere with an old high school friend, got a new job filming geek culture statues and collectibles, moved to the Valley, and attended a massive protest with thousands of joyful and passionate Angelenos. And that’s just when I remembered to take pictures. I also survived multiple minor earthquakes as well as LA’s worst fires of the past 60 years, spent a lot of lonely weekends getting Postmates for every meal, and tried my best to manage Bentley’s anxiety whenever I leave the apartment by, well, not leaving the apartment much. So, ya know, a mixed bag 😆 But ultimately I really love being out here. I’ve met so many amazing people and made some great friends, the weather really is incredible even when it’s hot, I’ve got some awesome new coworkers, moved to a great new apartment in a beautiful neighborhood, and I’m constantly meeting more and more creative people that inspire me to become a better filmmaker which is exactly why I’m here. Here’s to all the cool shit I plan to do in year two!

This is my America. Today I spent a few hours at one of the 12 “No Kings” protests in the LA / Southern California area. I cheered and shouted and laughed and engaged with a peaceful and loving community. We came together to protest an authoritarian government and a shriveled hot dog of a president. Thousands came together in Los Angeles and many, many more across the entire country. Authoritarianism has no place in this country. No kings. No dictators. No fascists. #nokings #losangeles #woodlandhills #thevalley #protest #nokingsprotest

Took my main man to Leo Carrillo Beach in Malibu today. It’s the closest dog-friendly beach now that we live in the Valley. Absolutely beautiful, picturesque, great views everywhere you look, and Bentley couldn’t have been less interested 😆 God he’s so weird, I love him so much. #malibu #leocarillobeach #dogsofinstagram #bentley #bestbuds #lordbensington #sony #fx3 #photography

The Reda zoo just grew by two. These little ladies have been part of the fam for a few days and are still getting used to their new home, but they’re getting more comfortable and more loving every day. Bentley is VERY excited to get to play with his new little sisters. They’re super curious about B and aren’t afraid of him, but they’re still cautious for now. Soon enough they’ll realize he’s completely harmless and I’m sure they’ll be besties in no time. Apologies in advance for flooding your feeds with pics and videos of all these babies. #cats #catsofinstagram #catoftheday #photography #catphotography #fx3 #sony #furbabies

I simply couldn’t ignore cool lighting and a good hair day. I’m also finally willing to admit that I have an enormous head. It’s like a Funko Pop of myself.

This year I turned 40, had a cross-country road trip with my brother and Bentley, saw the Grand Canyon, moved to Los Angeles, did a lot of touristy stuff in LA, took B on a few hikes and trips to the beach, met with a producer on the Warner Bros. lot, won a few awards for our short film, watched Shohei Ohtani hit his 51st home run of the season, went to a movie premiere with a friend from high school, met and got to film behind-the-scenes content of Shane Hurlbut, Brady Bassette, and Brittney Janae, made some cool new friends and helped them make a short film, brought Bentley to set and everyone loved him (obviously), bought a new camera and spent a LOT of time taking pictures of B, and then I spent a week in VA for Christmas with my family and missed my dog ALMOST as much as he missed me. 2024 was crazy. I did a lot of new things, pushed myself, got wayyy out of my comfort zone, made some great friends and memories. It was also very lonely at times and I’m not working as often as I need so I can actually continue living out here. I won’t lie, it has been hard. But it’s supposed to be hard. If it was easy, everybody would do it. Let’s see what you got, 2025. I’m ready for ya.

I’m so incredibly proud of our film and grateful for the response it has received this year. In the past few months we’ve screened in 8 festivals across the country, we’ve been nominated for 8 awards and won 4 including Best Drama Thriller, Best Suspense, the Gold Audience Award, and Best Director. Hopefully this is just the beginning, so be sure to follow @theredabrothers for updates. This has been a big year with a lot of huge milestones, but I’m always happiest when I’m making films that resonate with audiences. Maybe next year I’ll get to make another one with help from some of my new film fam in LA! #film #filmmaker #filmmaking #indie #indiefilm #director #filmdirector #shortfilm #awardwinning #redabrothers #theredabrothers #selfshadowanimus
