What are some decks that you want to build in 2026?
There are a lot of interesting and unique cards coming out this year; which allows for some really creative decks to be built. I really want to go back to trying to build a shrine deck and I’m going with go-shintai as the commander; I don’t know how this will play out.
I’m looking forward to TMNT and really want to build a deck around that; not sure if it will be editing the precon or picking my favorite turtle and building from that. This is the part that I enjoy about universes beyond and how different decks will be.
What decks are you taking apart at the start of 2026?
At the start of each year I like to assess my decks and which ones I still enjoy playing and which ones are just gathering dust on the shelf. This is a good way for me to adjust my deck building as well as finding cards that would be more useful in other decks that I am currently playing or building.
Just because I have taken a deck apart; doesn’t mean I won’t go back to the drawing board and attempt to build the deck again. That is probably going to be the case with Prosper; I hadn’t built the deck in anyway that was good, so I need to go back to the drawing board and try again at some point after I have finished current projects
What are some of your favorite memories from 2025?
2025 was a test, with both ups and downs; but when I look back at everything that happened it was a pretty good year overall. Starting the year with a rare @nyjets win and @hellogiabibble dancing on the big screen. A second rugby 15s state championship, going back to back. The longest road trip down to Orlando with a trip to Disney and Disney haircut to go with. Lots of time with family and friends, especially those trips antiquing. All culminating with an MTG advent calendar and a wonderful Christmas on the river
How did your decks play out in 2025?
For 2025 I decided to keep track on how my decks played and kept a note on each game; this would allow me to identify if I enjoyed playing a deck and what decks I played the most. I didn’t get in as many games as I wanted this year, but was happy with what I did manage to play. Obviously my go to deck was Jetmir as this is the one I played most in 2025, with some other decks starting to get more play

What is the final deck that you put together in 2025?
I didn’t put many decks together this year but I did make some decks that I really enjoyed playing. The final deck that I made was Iroh, Grand Lotus. This is a deck heavily based around spell slinging and has a lot of triggers (that I need to remember), so is a lot of fun to play. This isn’t a play style that I have put together before so it was extremely interesting learning a new style of play and I can’t wait to play this deck more
What are your favorite decks that you have played in 2025?
Continuing on with the @mtgfightclub trend of sharing #meandmycommanders deck at the end of the year; I wanted to make sure that I shared my decks. My favorite decks look a lot different this year; although there is one remaining favorite from last year with Jetmir. Although I have only played Iroh one time so far I know that it’s going to be a deck that I enjoy playing. I wonder if there will be any more changes in 2026

🎄TheMikeMTG Advent Calendar Deck🎄
For my 2025 advent calendar it was my goal to build a deck from the cards and packs that I opened in the advent calendar and only those cards (excluding basic lands). This was not the easiest to do and there were definitely times where I thought would be impossible; but it was a great way to build a deck in a way that not many people normally do. Of course this is a bracket one deck as I have put it together the best I could with cards available
I went with a Selesnya deck as I could put some great cards in it and did the best with what I had. The deck wants to focus on making some tokens, having +1/+1 counters and fighting other creatures. It isn’t the best deck but I know that it will be fun to play
🎄MTG ADVENT CALENDAR DAY 24🎄
My 2025 advent calendar has come to an end; another year where it has been fun opening many different packs from many different sets. It has been hard trying to put a deck together from these cards; but it has been fun actually looking at the cards and deciding the cards that would make a deck. This has been a fun way to build a deck that I haven’t done before
🎄MTG ADVENT CALENDAR DAY 23🎄
I am reaching the end of this years advent calendar and am excited to work out how to put this deck together from the cards that have been opened. I had to open another pack of Core 2019 because that was the first product that I opened and I was really hoping for a Nicol Bolas; unfortunately you don’t get everything that you want.
One day left and an avatar pack to open tomorrow; hopefully we get a 3 color or more legendary to build this deck around.

I don’t want a lot for this advent calendar; but a three color commander would definitely be nice to fit the colors I am wanting. I have two days left so hopefully I can find something that I can build and people can check out this crazy deck that has been made from the cards that I opened in my packs.

🎄MTG ADVENT CALENDAR DAY 21🎄
Three packs left in the 2025 MTG Advent Calendar deck building, and I still have no idea who the commander of the deck is going to be. I was hoping for a potential 3 color commander from this deck but unfortunately that did not happen so I am still hoping for a great commander to have. I’m still leaning towards Selesnya with King Darien as the commander.

A unsuccessful search for dragons today and an even more unsuccessful search for a playable card for the deck that I am trying to build for my advent calendar. Hopefully the final four packs will help us with deck building
