Years ago, Coach Joyce Daniels - Queen of Talk @iamjoycedaniels said something about me that stayed with me: “The Michanic is one of the best Masters of Ceremonies I have ever trained.” Recently, she said it again, this time PUBLICLY on a @jay_onairlive podcast. That moment was not just flattering but rather, it was a reminder of the journey; all the time spent on rehearsals and the corrections that followed every attempt. As always, mastery is achieved in small rooms before the big stages. It is the discipline of learning how to read a room, manage time, control energy, and carry the responsibility of someone else’s event like it was my own. Today, after over 9 years and more than 250 events, that same mindset still guides my work. Because being an MC is not about having a good voice - and that is a good enough advantage. Rather, It is about protecting the audience experience, keeping the flow, connecting the audience, and making sure every event runs smoothly, confidently, and on rhythm. If you are planning a conference, corporate event, launch, awards night, or premium celebration in 2026, I would be honoured to help you fine-tune the experience. Send a DM or email [email protected] to lock in your dates. I am The Michanic – Microphone Maverick; The FIRST Event Host MC you should hire, and the LAST you’ll ever truly need. 4.5 hours! 🔥 Powerful conversations!! 💯 Purposeful women. 💯 Honoured to serve as the Compère for the Girl To Girl Conference 1.0 @gtog__ , a room filled with growth, courage, strategy, health awareness, entrepreneurship, career insight, and real conversations that matter. From business resilience to cervical cancer awareness, relationships, career positioning, networking, and visibility, every session carried substance and impact. One reminder stayed with me all day: “Hard work without visibility gets ignored.” To every woman in the Girls, Growth & Empowerment Network — keep growing, keep showing up, and keep owning your seat at the table. Special appreciation to the Founder, Girls, Growth and Empowerment Network & Convener, G2G Conference, Mrs Jewel Thomas @hearttoheart_with_jc for having us around. Communication is often called a two-way street. While the phrase sounds precise, it leaves out half of the process. In practice, effective communication follows a four step sequence: - I speak. - You listen. - You tell me what you understood. - I compare your version with what I meant to say, to the degree of how much we should be on the same page, or not. Many professionals halt at the “I have said it” stage and believe the exchange is clear. However, that is only just the first step. The real work of communication starts once you finish speaking. In high stakes settings - boardrooms, negotiations, client meetings - a misunderstanding often costs more than momentary confusion because it erodes trust, ruins reputations and even profitable deals. Research published in the Harvard Business School Review @harvard_business_review shows that leaders who routinely verify understanding raise team alignment and execution rates. The outcome from the team, owing to that understanding is never luck but instead the disciplined habit of clarity. To communicate with the clarity of a seasoned professional, replace “Do you understand?” with “What is your takeaway from what I just shared?” That change turns communication from guesswork into verified alignment. Until the listener’s version is tested, the message remains unfinished. When a mismatch appears, do not defend the original words - adjust them. This habit keeps the room on track and drives conversations that advance decisions. What is one situation where you realised people heard something completely different from what you intended? Let us talk in the comments. As a Master of Ceremonies, your voice may carry the event, but it is your self-esteem that carries you. Healthy self-esteem is not arrogance, and it is not noise. Rather, it is the quiet confidence that allows you to walk into any room, trust your preparation, respect your value, and deliver without shrinking or overcompensating. When your self-esteem is healthy, three things happen. • You prepare properly because you believe your performance matters. • You communicate clearly because you are not seeking approval from the audience. • You handle pressure calmly because your identity is not shaken by small mistakes or unexpected changes. On stage, people may applaud your voice, your humour, or your presence. But what they are really responding to is your certainty, and it is that certainty that builds your brand. Event planners begin to trust you because you are dependable. Audiences connect with you once they can see that you are authentic. Before long, your name grows because your performance is consistent, not accidental. Low self-esteem makes an MC chase validation. In reverse, a healthy self-esteem empowers an MC in building a solid reputation. If you want a strong brand as a Master of Ceremonies, do not only work on your script but also work on your self-worth. When you respect your value, the market learns to respect it too. Confidence is not what you say about yourself, but rather what your consistency says over time. Always remember that! The most powerful person at a negotiation table is the one who is willing to walk away with nothing. Hunger bends your will, and influences your decision making process. It turns negotiations into pleading sessions. Clients respect confidence that is quiet and firm. Charge for the weight of your expertise, not for the length of the event, not for the size of the stage, and certainly not for the fear of losing the job. Build your career in a way that gives you options. Build your savings. Build your pipeline. Build your confidence. When you are not desperate, your voice becomes calm, your decisions become clear, and your value becomes easier to defend. Your value is felt long after the microphone is switched off. Price it that way. Never forget that! In many African homes, when a child is born, the first thing everyone listens for is a cry. It is the child’s first announcement to the world. It is as if to say, “I am here.” That sound carries relief, indicates life, and guarantees promise. The voice comes first; before titles, achievements and language becomes refined. As long as they have their voices, they will be fine. Our elders understood this truth long before microphones and stages existed. Hence the African proverb, “The child who is not heard will cry louder.” Exactly a month ago, I witnessed something remarkable as I hosted The Voices Live Experience 2026 convened by the stellar Victoria Ndu @thevictoriandu . It was the sound of voices! There is something sacred about the human voice, because it is more than sound. It is presence, identity and power. At Voices Live, I watched people do more than speak. Instead, I saw as they found courage. I saw quiet confidence rise. I watched stories that had lived in silence finally find air. And I was reminded again why I do what I do. Whether I stand on stage as a Master of Ceremonies, speak before an audience, or hold space in rooms where people are finding their words, my work is simple; I help voices breathe, protect the rhythm of the room and make sure every message lands with clarity, dignity and impact. Because when a voice is guided well, people do not just hear it, they feel it. One month later, and I am more than happy to see that the voices that rose that day are still getting amplified. That is the real power of a voice - that it reverberates through time!
