This little stone is done. I wanted to make some folksy, almost janky, calligraphic letters for this saying.
This stone, along with many other works, will be on show at my stand in the Country Living Pavilion at RHS Malvern next weekend, May 7th-10th. Come and say hello if you are in the neighbourhood.

Working through another weekend.
The weight of both finishing commissions to pay the bills and making fine art for my upcoming exhibition in September leaves me feeling like there aren’t enough hours in the day and days in the week, so working through weekends becomes essential.
I do have a holiday brimming on the horizon, so I think I’ll just about veer out of the way of oncoming burnout!

My first-ever still life carving. I carved this Portland limestone panel a few years ago as part of the lovely Edward Bawden & Me exhibition at @thehigginsbedford , curated by the excellent @christopherbrownlino . (It now happily resides in a private collection.)
I’m hoping to do a still life again, fingers-crossed, for my solo exhibition in September.

I’m back in the workshop after spending most of last week showing my work at RHS Malvern. It was great to share my work with so many people, and I think there will be some interesting new projects on the horizon as a result.
All that said, I’m glad to be back in the quiet and routine of my workshop. I’m generally a bit of a hermit (as are many other artists and craftspeople I know), so all that chatting has really taken it out of me. Back to breaking stone!

I’ve picked up this unfinished stone again. I’ve never settled on how I want to do the texture of the dog, which has kept me from finishing it, but now I’m determined to finish this little guy and get him out into the world.

My first solo exhibition, which will be at @andelliart in Wells, is coming up fast (as little too fast, it feels), so I thought I would share this poster with you all.
I will not only be exhibiting a bunch of brand new pieces of lettering and stone, but also some engraved and sculptural works in metal and wood.
The exhibition runs from the 5th-19th of September, with the private view on Saturday the 5th - which is open to all. I hope to see some of you there!

I was commissioned to make this slate for @baskervillepunches as part of their Small Performances project, which celebrates the work of type designer John Baskerville.
It was carved in a piece of Welsh slate, painted, and traditionally oil gilded with 24kt gold leaf.
