LEGACY⭐️ Written & Performed by MISALOVE This poem came to me with a quickness. I couldn’t help but write this one down. It was inspired by the passing of an acting teacher/director of mine, Dean Irby. As I gathered with my peers to discuss his own legacy, we agreed that he was a Titan in all of our lives and his impact on all of his students was what will keep him alive. His reach was very vast, going back decades. His family, his peers, and every student of his has gained a new angel. We now all have him in our corner as we go through every storm. Rest in power Dean Irby. Thank you for teaching me how to unlock my own. Now, I am tagging every single member of my family because I was only able to meet one of the many Titans I mention, Maurice Nixon. Y’all knew him for many more years and he remains alive in my heart through those memories. All of the other Titans have communicated with me through daydreams and other signals that I always tend to be aware enough to receive i.e. the mic echo after exclaiming about Jay Carlton Smith or the way the light shines at its brightest after introducing my great-grandfather Jesse Brown. These black folks had influence, intention, and impact. So much so that I can still speak on them after they are long gone without ever meeting them face to face. That’s what I want. That’s what I do. These traits are written into my legacy and I know I am meant to step in to those shoes. Though Black History Month is over, acknowledging the accomplishment of black people in the here and now + from way back when is an everyday venture. I am blessed to come from where I come from. I am inspired by Michael B winning best actor as presented by Viola Davis. Icons with icons. I plan to be in their midst. I already am. I plan to be one. I already am. Aim to inspire. We need you to. Thank you once again @alkebulanatpurchase & @purchase_afrodisiac for the platform. I felt oh so comfortable to speak my truth at my Alma Mater❤️. Oh and anybody in school right now? Get that degree. EMPOWER ME⭐️ Written & Performed by MISALOVE as we near the end of black history month, I find it important to acknowledge that loving myself is a radical action. In a world where people of my complexion are taught to be hated, the most I can do is give myself love. To love on myself from all sides, the good, the bad, the worst, the best, the pretty & the ugly. To love the little girl that is jumping for joy inside of me as she gets to experience this world through my eyes. The only person that can Empower Me is little Meese. She is who I do it for everytime. She is who I honor. This is just a segment of one of our deepest conversations. Enjoy! This issue is an ode to the beautiful 8th month of the year, August! I am so grateful for the places I’ve gone, the things I’ve done, and the people I’ve experienced🌱 This caption is shorter than usual (ehhh no it’s not), but more time for you to enjoy the Issue! As we come to the latter months of the year, I recommend reflection on all you have accomplished. Big and small. We tend to only address our shortcomings or missteps with high levels of passion. Imagine alchemizing that same passion towards believing in everything you can accomplish. A word? I think so! There are steps. It’s not overnight. You build the flow in which you operate. You are in control. Do what you want, but definitely do what you need. So if you gonna be on that damn phone anyway, you might as well use it to improve your own quality of life as much as possible. As you can see my schedule remains & stays & stays & stayssss packed but luckily it’s packed with ✨creativity✨. Spring time is a favorite of mine because it’s when everything — & everyone — start to bloom! People are in their steady gym grind + eat healthy regiment & rhythm! Opportunities seem to fall into the right laps and produce great fruit! & the sun is out just a little bit longer and we all are real happy about that! This season has and will be all about learning me! I’ve worked on and been a part of many wonderful projects & definitely received my flowers for them :) I love the work I do & who I do it with!
