We spoke to resident doctors Sabrena and Suvridhi about their electives in Jordan and Dubai, and what they'd recommend considering when planning an elective. Sabrena & Suvridhi 's tips: 🔵 What to pack: Be aware of the hospital dress code. Some institutions require clinical attire with a white lab coat, while others expect scrubs. 🔵 Safety: Ensure you know how to seek help if needed. Having a trusted contact in the country can be invaluable. 🔵 Language barriers: Communication can be challenging in non-English-speaking countries. Learning basic phrases or having someone who can translate is highly beneficial. 🔵 Patient demographics: Be prepared to encounter different disease patterns and cultural approaches to healthcare. 🔵 Transport: Research how you will travel to and from your placement. 🔵 Finances: Plan for currency exchange and day-to-day expenses. 🔵 Climate: Consider the weather and allow time to adapt to it. #ad | let me make ARCP a little less painful 🤏🏼 one thing I didn’t realise early on was how much e-learning can help with building non-core teaching hours and filling portfolio gaps (especially HLO3) I’ve used a few modules from the @themdu_ (included with membership), and they were genuinely helpful for both my portfolio and understanding the job better. 📌 so make sure you save this for ARCP and that you get your MDU membership! follow along @doctor.juno for more tips & realistic doctor life #doctor #portfolio #elearning #themdu

#AD I nearly didn’t apply to IMT, here’s why I’m glad I did! 👩🏽‍⚕️ 💙I did an F3, F4 and F5 working out which speciality I wanted to pursue, and when I decided GUM was for me, I really thought long and hard about whether to go the specialty doctor or GP route instead!! 💙After lots of chats with senior colleagues, I decided to bite the bullet and get on with IMT. 💙Here are some things I’ve found along the way, and honestly, it’s not been as intense or overwhelming as I was anticipating. 💙If your specialty sits on the other side of IMT, don’t let all the noise put you off. 💙If you found this video helpful and want me to make another one on tips for IMT applications, let me know! 💙And for info on MDU memberships, head to the link in their bio, or their website! #AD Starting F1 can feel overwhelming, so here are my top tips! ✨💁🏽‍♀️ 🤍There’s so much I wish I’d known before starting from learning to ask for help, to working safely, to alwaaays taking your breaks !! 🤍One of the biggest things is having the right support around you, which comes in many forms. A big one is the right medical indemnity, just incase you ever need it. I’ve been an MDU member for 12 years (I feel old now🙂), and love knowing I’ve got the support there. 🤍If you’re starting in August, good luck!! You got this 👊🏽 🤍And for info on MDU memberships, head to the link in their bio, or their website! Dr A #doctor #healtheducation #nurse #hospital fyp

Doctors are used to making high stakes decisions every day, but doing that under pressure, without enough sleep or support, is not only draining for medical professionals but can have grave consequences for patient safety. It’s no surprise that many doctors tell us they are considering leaving the profession altogether, but we can’t afford to lose skilled and dedicated professionals in this way. Our latest member survey results should act as a wakeup call to Government and healthcare leaders to prioritise support for doctors, which will improve both retention of healthcare staff and patient safety.

#AD @themdu_ wellbeing survey has shown that 85% of doctors report increased stress levels at work, while nearly half state that stress is putting their own physical and mental health at risk, and could put patients at risk due to the increased the risk of errors at work. These are concerning figures. No-one goes into medicine expecting it to be easy, and it remains a hugely rewarding occupation, but we need to recognise the high stress levels within healthcare and do everything we can to support our work force, for the sake of both staff and patients. There are wider, systemic pressures that we can’t control, but a local Trust or GP practice can ensure some very simple steps are in place to support their staff. Being able to connect with your colleagues during the working day can make such a difference; it engenders a shared sense of purpose and reduces the isolation a doctor can so often feel. When I meet my colleagues for coffee, it is the laughter and human connection I need as much as a few moments away from the coalface, or the food and drink. Food and drink is important, too, though - I, for one, become inefficient and irritable when I am hungry or thirsty! Doctors need to work in an environment where healthy food and drink are available and breaks are valued, which is why the MDU is calling for the government to ensure NHS employers provide staff catering and rest facilities, including for those working out of hours. As doctors, we also need to learn to prioritise these simple measures ourselves - to make time to connect, take breaks to refuel, and also make sure that our life outside of work always has space for the things that bring us joy, and truly help us to rest and recharge when we are away from work. What do you think? If you are in healthcare, do you have the opportunity to take breaks and eat and drink healthily when you are at work? What measures are most important for helping you to deal with stress in your job? I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments! 😊 #burnout #stress #doctors #wellbeing
