Asha* was a mother of two young daughters when she received her diagnosis of Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML). Her sole wish was to live long enough to see her children grow older. That was three decades ago 💙💚💛 Despite access to medication through The Max Foundation and the dedicated care of her physician, Asha's health endured continued setbacks over the years😪 Different drug options and severe side effects took a toll on her quality of life. Her path was painful, yet Asha persevered 💪🏾Today, at 66, Asha is in good health, traveling the world and cherishing time with her married daughters and grandchildren. Her experience is a poignant reminder that access to medicines is a human right 💊 ✊🏾 We’re grateful for donors and partners who’ve enabled us to provide people like Asha with access to treatment and offer support for their families too. *Name changed to protect identity #TheMaxFoundation #ChronicMyeloidLeukemia #CancerTreatment #PatientStories

Cancer can impact far more than a person’s health. For many families, it affects education too. Through Max Schooling, The Max Foundation supports students and families navigating cancer across Malaysia, India, Cambodia, and the Philippines. In 2025 alone, the program supported 360 students. Behind every number is a personal story. One beneficiary in Cambodia shared that there were times they thought they would not be able to complete high school because of their family’s financial situation while supporting a parent living with chronic myeloid leukemia (CML). Today, they are studying accounting at university in Phnom Penh and became the first person in their family to graduate high school. Access to care should also mean access to hope and opportunities 💙 #InternationalFamilyDay #MoreThanMedicine #MaxSchooling #TheMaxFoundation #HealthEquity #CancerSupport

For physicians like Dr. Mipsang Lama in Nepal, there was a time when the rare and devastating blood disorder of Paroxysmal Nocturnal Hemoglobinuria (PNH) could be identified but not truly treated. Care meant repeated transfusions, temporary stabilization, and watching patients live with constant uncertainty. Then, thanks to our partnership with @novartis and IPIG, access to treatment and training changed that! Within weeks, patients began regaining strength. Conversations shifted from survival to possibility. For Dr. Lama, it was more than a clinical change. It was the ability to finally offer hope alongside care. 🗨️He shared, "To those working in global health and rare disease access, your work has a deeply human impact. PNH may be rare, but the suffering it causes is real and significant. Today, for the first time, we can say with confidence that 'it is treatable.'” #GlobalHealth #PatientCare #PatientSupport #TheMaxFoundation

In Laos, access to care isn’t always straightforward. It takes coordination, persistence, and people working behind the scenes to make it possible. This is a glimpse into that journey for Khammueng. 📹️ Watch the full story unfold. #TheMaxFoundation #GlobalHealth #CancerCare #AccessToCare #HealthEquity

Twenty‑five years ago, on May 10, the approval of a revolutionary medication for chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) transformed a devastating diagnosis into something radically different. What was once a death sentence became a manageable, chronic condition, allowing people to live full lives. That progress is evident in the story of Karen from Honduras. Diagnosed with CML at just 19 years old, Karen gained access to this life‑changing treatment through our partnerships with @novartis and Centro de Cáncer Emma Romero de Callejas. Now, continued innovation has opened an even more hopeful chapter for Karen: Treatment‑Free Remission (TFR). In 2023, after more than 14 years on therapy, Karen became one of the first four patients in Honduras to enter our TFR program which has enabled her to live well without daily medicine while remaining carefully monitored. She took her last pill in May of 2023, and her test results continue to show as undetectable. Then came another miracle. Last August, Karen welcomed a healthy baby into the world. Her son is living proof of what happens when science and access to innovative treatment come together. A moment once unimaginable at diagnosis, made possible by decades of medical progress plus access to treatment and care. 💛 “If it weren’t for access to treatment and for being considered for TFR,” Karen says, “I wouldn’t be living this miracle, the miracle of life and of seeing my baby.” This Mother’s Day, as we honor 25 years of CML progress, we celebrate mothers like Karen who are living proof that when innovation reaches patients, it can both save lives and create new ones! 🌼 #ChronicMyeloidLeukemia #MothersDay #MothersDay2026 #PatientStories #TheMaxFoundation

For people living with cancer, knowledge can transform fear into confidence. Through patient educational brochures and videos, complex medical terms become clearer. As Cristian Neves, our Patient Education & Communications Coordinator for Latin America, shared, "We do not simply present evidence. We tell it in ways that reflect the realities patients navigate every day." Education strengthens access to medicine. When access to treatment is paired with understanding, patients don’t just receive care. They gain agency in moments that matter most. #MoreThanMedicine #PatientEducation #HealthEquity #CancerCare #GlobalHealth #TheMaxFoundation

Before we map strategies for the future, we begin with people. One component of this was through our Think Tank Hackathon, held in Seattle last week at @fredhutch We opened the day by listening to two partner physicians who have worked with us for over 20 years: Dr. Silvana Torselli of Guatemala and Prof. Nicholas Anthony Othieno‑Abinya of Kenya. Dr. Torselli spoke about equity, not as an abstract concept, but as a daily reality. 🗨️“Access to treatment is not only a medical goal,” she reminded the room. “It is a matter of equity.” Prof. Othieno‑Abinya shared what access truly means for his colleagues who provide care. 🗨️“The fact that people can be given free medicine to treat others makes them very, very excited,” he said. “They are willing to do anything to continue the program.” These perspectives grounded the more than 50 Think Tank members, partners, board members, and staff when envisioning future possibilities. After hearing what it truly takes to deliver care across long distances with limitations such as lack of diagnostics, medications, and healthcare professionals, participants broke into four Hackathon teams. Their task was to design bold, geography‑agnostic solutions that could expand access to treatment and help shape decisions across oncology and global health. All teams' solutions involved multifunctional digital platforms, many of which are AI-powered, to provide patients with immediate treatment information, connections to providers, and to be a hub for peer NGO connections. Thank you to everyone who spent the day helping shape our strategic plan. We are grateful for your time, expertise, passion, and commitment. Together, we can reach 100,000 patients annually by 2031! 📷: @nick_klein_photography #AccessToCare #CancerInnovation #HealthcareInnovation #TheMaxFoundation
