Even if you are not interested in pixel art, but like artbooks in general, you must have this one. It could lie on your coffee table. However, if you have kids, you'll have to defend this book from them.
It's not just yet another artbook with colourful pictures, quickly assembled of a bunch of standard patterns, and printed on glossy paper. The author Klas Benjaminsson is not just a graphic designer, but also a pixel artist, and he's obviously familiar with the matter much more than most of us. This chap definitely loves and knows what he is doing, and a great amount of work becomes apparent, when you start looking through the book.
The book contains interviews, stories, and comments, as well as a little introductory chapter for those who want to have a go in pixel art.
If you are not a pixel art fan, you can limit yourself to buying this volume (No 3) - it's the most eye-catching of the series. On the other hand, if pixel art is your passion, all three books are must-have, as they will foster your appreciation no matter how seasoned you are.
To be completely honest, can't say these three lovely books is all you need to learn about pixel art. There's much more to learn and see. However, this could be your first source of inspiration.
Yes, they are quite pricey, but they're worth it.
