For the ones who like to read:
2024 was full of hypocrisy, from the world at large… to people I least expected. As a witness to the bullshit I’ve been exposed to… and while it seems like mediocrity, character flaws, and toxic behavior gets rewarded… don’t ever trade your integrity.
My takeaways from 2024:
Don’t lower your standards.
It’s okay to have certain expectations from others, especially when you know what you bring to the table.
Real friends check each other when they out of line. You shouldn’t have to tiptoe around their feelings. There is value in honesty, but not everybody accepts it. Will you hold them accountable or enable them?
If their problems are always “bigger” than yours, run. It’s draining being around those stuck in a victim mentality. Over time you’ll realize how one-sided the relationship has gotten; and after all you have given and when you’re in need, the lack of reciprocation will be hard to ignore.
When people show you who they are, believe them the first time. Sometimes having grace for others leads to you being taken advantage of. It’s up to you to break the cycle.
