I moved to LA 10 years ago. That period of my life felt like a tornado. So much change, so fast. I was really going through it girl.
Music, especially live music, became my grounding. I felt most like myself when a song cracked something open in me. The discovery of a new artist made me feel like I could reinvent myself too. Call it the Aquarius in me, but I’ve always been hooked on finding artists before the masses do.
So after the pandemic, when all of my
@thelightningco clients wanted to activate IRL again, I brought the idea to my
@itsbeachparty partners, Ezell and Chris. Ezell named it. Zap Sessions. It was an ode to my first business (
@thelightnigco ) but also symbolized music + tattoo culture. Chris had built showcases before, so he sent over
@hotelziggy as a venue idea and helped structure the show.
Two years later, we’ve hosted shows every month, platformed hundreds of indie artists, and our waitlist to play our shows stays 100+ deep.
My favorite part? Meeting
@sydneyy._ ,
@ciera31mcgrew ,
@thurdwurld , and
@indigomadethebeat through Beach Party shows and watching them grow into people who can now run the production without us & deeply get the culture we’re creating in Los Angeles.
I’m really proud of that.
My second favorite part? Artists feel like we actually care about them. Because we do.
Nothing is perfect. There’s no secret. But if there is one, it’s probably having the idea, executing on it, & the rest is ruthless consistency.
I never *need* to promote this show anymore.
(We built our audience by my personal DMs to strangers just FYI).
So, this isn’t promotion it’s simply a proud and sentimental business owner’s update that if you’re in LA on 5/15, pull up to the show + concert party. Zap Sessions is where it’s at, in my completely unbiased opinion.
