To celebrate the Central Library’s 100th birthday, @thelibrarystore will be selling a limited run of Central Library themed posters at shop.lfla.org/collections/lapl-prints
Zi Xu’s illustration is inspired by the “Statue of Civilization” statue that is on display in Central Library, featuring an Athenian woman with two Egyptian sphinxes beside her. The piece reimagines the statue as an illustration of Athena reading a book with the sphinxes beside her to pay tribute to both the artistic legacy of the library as well as the importance of the library as an institution that provides knowledge and education to everyone.
Also join us at Central Library on May 17 at 2pm to meet the organizers and creatives behind this collaboration for a panel discussion with Vincent Jacot (founder of Historiart), Katie Sutton (Founder, Gallery 1988), and artists Aracely Munoz, Zi Xu, and David Kloc, who will discuss how this partnership came about and how Central Library inspired their artwork.
