School is on holiday, and for the first time in a while, I’ve had to slow down.
But instead of feeling rested, I found myself feeling… unsettled.
No lesson plans.
No pupils to engage.
No structured routine.
Just the quiet and an uncomfortable question:
Who am I outside of teaching?
I’ve been home since Monday, and it hasn’t been as easy as I expected. The restlessness, the mood shifts, and the constant urge to “do something” made me realise how deeply teaching is woven into my identity.
Roles that demand so much of us—mentally, emotionally, and physically can gradually become more than just jobs. They can begin to define us.
But this period has also been a gentle reminder:
We are more than our roles. More than our routines. More than our productivity.
Perhaps this break is not just for rest, but for rediscovery.
For anyone in a purpose-driven profession who has ever felt this way—you’re not alone.
