The Leap is working with York St John University and community participants to look at community-based cultural leadership. What does it feel like? Who’s represented? Who counts as a leader? What are the opportunities and challenges, and what changes do we want to see?
Join us in a free creative workshop, facilitated by Wahida Shaffi, to share your voice in our ‘manifesto’ – create a placard, a statement, a poem, a rap, a song, or a rant – that communicates the change you want to see in community arts and culture.

Tickets for Connecting Culture: The Bradford Way, a one-day public conference sharing Bradford’s model for place-based culture are available at /events/connecting-culture-the-bradford-way/.
The conference will take place on 25 March 2026 at Bradford Arts Centre (formerly Kala Sangam) with tickets available on a pay as you can model for individuals and organisations.
Marking a moment to unite the arts and culture sector, the conference aims to help shape the district’s creative future beyond its landmark UK City of Culture 2025 year. Attendees will hear how collaborative place-based working aids sector stability and raises the ambition of local arts and culture development.
The full programme for the conference will be announced in February 2026 but will include an introductory plenary session with Bradford 2025 Executive Director Dan Bates, Creative Director Shanaz Gulzar and Director for Northern Economy and Partnerships at Arts Council England Pete Massey to reflect on the collaborative spirit that will share the legacy of the UK City of Culture.
Delegates will also have the opportunity for one to one sessions with potential funders and to attend curated screenings by the Yorkshire Film Archive.
