Our gallery will be activated in a whole new way for the closing ceremony for In this Sand: Seven Days of Collective Care. Members of the public are invited to join @cara_levine and ceremonialists from @thelanternpdx for a special closing ritual exploring themes of personal and collective grieving, healing and belonging, and connectivity and care. The Lantern is an inclusive, intergenerational gathering place that offers connection, grief support, healing, and belonging. Learn more at TheLanternPDX.org.

We are beyond humbled at all of our early supporters, donors, volunteers, movers and shakers who have donated so much of themselves to our cause. Thank you all for joining us for our first on-site fundraiser! We are so moved by all who have selflessly contributed and sacrificed so much to help us breathe our dream into life! This spark of an idea is only a reality because of the generosity, love, and care of our growing extended family, so thank you for all that you give and all that you are! We look forward to hosting you all at our “official”opening when our renovation is complete this summer! Our Biggest Love To You All! ✨ The Lantern

Grief is already present in your workplace—in productivity dips, communication breakdowns, and quiet withdrawal. Yet most organizations lack the language or framework to respond skillfully. Our Come Together for Grief in the Workplace offering helps leaders, managers, and teams understand how to embrace a grief-informed workplace culture. Participants will: •Learn how grief—from death, illness, caregiving, divorce, life transitions, and more—shows up at work, often disguised as performance issues or disengagement. •Discover why capacity fluctuates and how to respond with clarity and care rather than avoidance or over-correction. Explore the Dual Process Model of grief and understand why someone might seem “fine” one day and struggle the next. •Learn practical, professional approaches that support employees through loss without turning the workplace into therapy. •Walk away with concrete language, realistic expectations, and actionable next steps for building a more grief-aware workplace culture. The question isn’t if grief will show up at work, but how your organization will meet it. The Lantern can help. Register for our 4/14/26 Grief in the Workplace workshop today! (✨Link in bio).

As the days get longer and the rain continues to fall, many things are in full bloom over here at The Lantern! In addition to the warm welcome of daffodils, magnolias, clovers, camellias, the start of a new roof and sheetrock installation, we are thrilled to report that we’ve officially met our $100,000 bridge funding campaign goal, thanks to the generosity of @followaholloway and @davidokahl and their $20,000 Full Potential Fund individual giving match! We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who contributed from near and far. We could not be more grateful for our growing community of supporters and friends!🍀

As our renovation moves closer to completion every day, we are so excited to move into the next phase: furnishing the space! As such, all dollars raised between now and June will help support the purchase of essential furniture, program materials, appliances, kitchenware, a community library, beautiful art, and all the essential technology needed to activate the space! Do you have in kind donor connections you’d like to share with us? Are you interested in sponsoring a particular item or do you know someone who might be? Please don’t hesitate to reach out! All contributions, big and small, will help make this house a community home. We’re so close, and we simply can’t wait to share our space with you!✨ #thelanternpdx #grieftending #griefsupport #griefjourney #gratitude

GOOD NEWS FLASH: Amidst all the crazy in this world right now, we received some great news yesterday. An upcoming exhibition I’ve been dreaming up with artists @roamingwithmyrollei @erbucky2 and @mccauseyartstudio received one of the @regionalarts Project Grants. We’ve been working on this idea for almost two years and this funding will bring it to fruition. Art matters, y’all, and we’re so grateful for this support to get more of it out there. Details forthcoming. Images of our presenting partner @thelanternpdx . #raccprojectgrant #regionalartspdx #portlandartists #portlandarts

We are still feeling so incredibly grateful to all who brought your blankets, chairs, and hearts and joined us at the Lantern this past weekend. We also want to offer a huge expression of gratitude to Ríomas (@shireenaminimusic ) for putting words to what many of our hearts and minds have been feeling these past several months, as they led us in song in support of our immigrant kin. While we as a collective are experiencing grief in so many spaces and places these days, there is comfort in coming together, knowing that we never have to grieve alone. ❤️

The birth of The Lantern has brought so many wonderful things to bear, but perhaps the very best thing about our journey has been all of the many compassionate and inspiring cheerleaders, thought partners and friends we’ve made along the way. People who've confidently walked alongside us, assuring us that our vision is a worthy one. Folks like Mark Holloway. Having been a seasoned Executive Director for Social Venture Partners Portland and a huge champion for the Preschool for All initiative here in Portland (among many other philanthropic causes), Mark knows all-too-well that it takes a village to breathe big dreams into life. As such, he and his husband David Kahl will be MATCHING ALL GIFTS up to $20,000 through their Full Potential Fund between now and February 28th! We are so grateful to be in partnership with Mark, David and Full Potential Fund, and hope you will be inspired to help us bring this much needed programming to our community this spring, too!
