20 years ago today we released NaĂŻve.
It’s strange looking back at it now. That song was part of the very beginning for us, figuring things out as we went, playing tiny rooms, chasing something we didn’t fully understand yet.
I wrote Naïve when I was 15, probably in about an hour. Back then I’d just write a verse and a chorus and loop it, not overthink it too much. It started off quite simple, almost like a campfire song, and then the band brought a whole new energy to it, especially with the rhythm, which made it feel like something else entirely. Lyrically, it was just that feeling of paranoia, when something doesn’t quite sit right and you can’t explain why. It’s a simple emotion, but maybe that’s why it stuck with people.
It’s one of those songs that’s stayed with us ever since.
If you were there when it first came out, or found it somewhere along the way, thanks for being part of it.
